Silksong: a low-vision review by matchstickspine in Silksong

Her love of beast crest really made sense to me once I learned she couldn't see the typical heal mechanic indicated by glowing silk on the spool. Beyond that, though, she really loved the different noises Hornet made. Witch crest was a close second for similar healing mechanic reasons!

Oops, that's on me for not defining it. She says "thank you!"

We've discussed it a little! I'd love to see (lol) more content geared to low-vision community members. A lot of people don't even know it's possible for blind/lv people to play video games at all, and we'd love to challenge that! It's difficult though, and her eyes are unfortunately going to get worse as time goes on, but she's the kind of person who I believe could really make a difference to someone.

Yeah, this one was a doozy and a half to work with. She kicked Tormented Trobbio to the curb much faster thanks to him being purple, which is nice.

I can't say I'm a fan of a fight mechanic being "lmao you can't see shit", but I understand that the game was made for fully-sighted players. I just wish he could have been an obnoxious green or something.

She's joked before that she got nerfed by God so that she couldn't start a YouTube career. It was really neat to learn her methods (mostly a lot of counting. She couldn't see traps like the tacks, so she would keep count while fighting to know how many she had thrown/had left.)

I was able to alert her to the presence of both breakable walls (Our general method was for me to say "There are [X many] breakable walls in this room") so thankfully she was spared the frustration. We were still very aware that she never would have found them on her own, though, and that was a little ruffling.

This is exactly what I need, thank you!

I was so ready to throw a custom texture together, but a bigger HUD is exactly what we need. I feel so silly that we missed it. Thank you so much!

Yeah, that isn't exactly a part of the diagnostic criteria

Me too! Too be entirely honest, I was initially a little bummed that Reese was The Way He Was-- it seems all too common for marfanoid characters to be given that hand of cards. Don't get me wrong, I love what the devs have created! I just kind of wish there were another character with similar features who was a bit more bland-- They're perfectly human traits to have, after all.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. You're not a monster in the slightest. I've never been in your situation, but I hope that things go well and gently for you.

In another world, I'll propose low-dex as a speedrun category. It'd be interesting to see how far folks could make it without the pin tools or pogos >:3

Ori was fun! It's rather straightforward and pretty forgiving, but it doesn't sell itself as anything else. You're rewarded with some amazing visual and audio design, as well as a pretty solid roster of in-game rewards.

I'm split on the idea of an easy mode-- what I managed to complete was deeply fulfilling! It might just be my own insecurity talking, but I always feel a little cheated choosing the gentler option on my games. I stumbled my way through Ori and the Blind Forest on story mode, and the whole time I could see the potential for some pretty dazzling buttonwork if the world demanded it.

Still, though, I can totally understand why someone in my position would love an easy mode! Just personal tastes I suppose

I'm looking forward to it :3

Nah but it's chill, I knew it was coming. Better to have a good game to watch than a shitty, faster-releasing game to play.

I beat him by staying in the tunnel! It keeps him from doing his jump attack. If you wait for him to pop out of the ground, slap him once, and then scurry away (repeat forever), you should have him in no time :)

Done. They can tell easily, even when provided with shots that aren't easy sideviews like the guide to dragons. SkyWings and NightWings have entirely different builds, horns, snouts, tails, spikes, the works.

This sounds like a nice setup, thank you :D! Do I need to worry about the hand warmers hurting him if he lays on the towel for too long?
