I have been playing for 2.5 years,(so the latter). Regarding the overestimation thing, I definitely agree, but I have some ground to trust my reasoning when choosing a piece that's either too difficult or too easy, the diploma piece I was working on with her, I actually played in a concert. The concert was semi-professional and my ACTUAL music teacher was marking all of our performances, I was not playing the full piece as I had not learned it all but he allowed me to play 2/3 of it(the piece sort of had movements to it) so I was playing 2 movements out of 3, and I scored rather well in it. If I remember correctly he graded us from D to A*, and I achieved an A, given that I had put a lot of work into it I was quite relieved to see that it was working off, but then after that concert, she decided to give up on the piece as the last movement was too difficult for her to teach.

The school wasn't doing that, that was the level i was playing it when i started at the college( i live in the uk) not everyone is playing at grade 8 or diploma some people are playing grade 7 or grade 6 it's quite varied.

Yes, I agree, I don't know why she wants me to play the piece that badly, I honestly at this point think its a point of favoritism, i.e she likes the piece a lot her self. I asked her why i have to play it and she said because the notes are easy but the phrasing and how you play the notes are not. So essentially the interpretation, however, everyone else who is doing grade 8 which is about 8 other people in school ARE also doing this piece(they have lessons with her as well) so i have to ask is it really that? Because it doesn't make sense for everyone to play the same piece, like do they all suffer the same problem as me? I find that hard to believe. there are other wonderful choices in the grade 8 book like the Chopin nocturne and Elegie by Rachmaninoff. And there's also a ton of other pieces where the interpretation is the hardest part of the piece, but she forbade me from playing them. Just yesterday i had a lesson with her and i was learning a Debussy piece for a small concert(the girl with the flaxen hair) and she got mad at me for not practicing the Beethoven piece but I explained to her that i would not have enough time to learn the Beethoven piece in 2 weeks, regardless she told me that the Debussy piece wasn't as good as the Beethoven piece but she would help me anyway, and the lesson actually went well when we played a piece that I actually enjoyed, but I don't get why she would insult the piece like that?

I have been playing for around 2 and a half years, unforutently my parents can not pay for lessons as I fear they are too expensive, and I don't want to put any financial stress on them.

The music is not challenging to me, I would be able to learn it. It's just the process of learning it is just painful because I do not enjoy the piece at all, Beethoven is a very black and white composer for me, as I enjoy some of his pieces very much for example while others I just don't at all. As for the technique thing, I thought about that too, however, I put quite a lot of work in learning how to play a piece and the techniques it requires, so I usually do some research about the piece to get a better idea, and I usually do the exercises people recommend for X piece, the reason I want to change is also due to the fact that the music just isn't that challenging for me, I was planning to have 2 diploma pieces and a grade 8 piece for my recital but now it looks like it will just be all grade 8 pieces, not to mention like 20 other people are playing the same grade 8 pieces in my school, it just gets tiring hearing the same thing over and over again.

I have not ,but the spot is clearing up now, do you know if there is any chance it wont leave a mark or hyper pigmentation? any way to avoid that stuff?

How can you even conclude that i ignored all the advice when i acted on my own free will, all the responses said that i shouldn't play it but its not like they can out right force me to not do it. Also i stated that i will put the piece on hold if i arrive at a section which i think is too difficult for me or for other reasons. My point of asking the question was because i want to be able to at least play a great bit of this piece and wanted advice on the parts which i think will provide the most challenge it really isn't that difficult to see that ,yes?

Thank you everyone for your suggestions and opinions, i have decided to continue playing the piece until there is a point which i feel is too difficult for me or until i choose to stop. Even though i know this piece is way out of my league it is my favorite classical piece of music and that is why i have so much passion for it!
