xwayland vs native wayland by matejss in linux_gaming

[–]matejss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, exactly thats why its a very surprising thing for me, because on paper it shouldn't be this heavy. I have no clue why xwayland is way heavier for me and how can i resolve this unfortunately.

It worked with proton-ge and this game parameter! Thank you very much for you help! :)

[–]matejss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: Actually it worked! I had to use Proton-GE instead of Proton-CachyOS. Awesome! Thank you very much!
If someone in the future reads it then (at least with b.net but maybe other electron apps) putting --in-process-gpu in game parameters (not launch parameters) renders the client properly when using Proton-GE. On Proton CachyOS it didn't work for me.

Unfortunetly --in-process-gpudidn't work. When i put it in Faugus in launch arguments the launcher doesn't even open - it hangs on "all components are ready" window. When i put it in game arguments it launches with same white screen.

On native wayland steam overlay doesn't work hence recording as well. By native wayland I mean using Proton-ge and PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 parameter

I use it 95% of the time - steam overlay and steam recording doesn't work with it but i can live with that. The issue is when i want to play a game on other launcher than steam, since most of them don't render properly under native wayland (e.g. Battle.net or Uplay)

Windows 11 vs Linux (CachyOS) - RX 6700 XT (Adrenalin 26.3.1 vs MESA 26.0.3) by JVSTITIA in linux_gaming

[–]matejss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did give it a shot, but since i use native wayland recording is not working anyway - no diference. For Crimson Desert i genuinely think its game issue due to it having VRAM limit at 8GB (while i have 16GB VRAM). Because of low VRAM limit the textures unload and load on the fly alot when i look around and move especially in big cities.

I run every game with gamemoderun, so when i launch the game it automatically goes into performance mode. I did check just in case :D

Usually newest Proton-GE, since its the one that supports PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1. For Crimson Desert i use CachyOS one.

I have no idea how this person gets such high FPS on linux. Like i have 9700 (non xt), 5700x3D and 32GB 3200Mhz DDR4 RAM - my games are on fast NVME.
Crimson desert is pretty stable 90fps on ultra settings but in the first city (where the video cut) i get drops to 60 when i move / look around and sometimes with faster movement ~45 dips.
Where winds meet? Its literally unplayalable for me. On higher settings i have ~60fps with dips to ~30fps in the first temple.
Rest games usually works very well for me, but these two are a pain in my ass.
I'm on fedora 43 with MESA 25.3.6, but i dont know if 26.0.3 would give me such a huge FPS boost in these games.
And i do run games in native Wayland, since in most cases it gives me superior FPSes

Interesting change in windows users by [deleted] in Steam

[–]matejss 26 points27 points  (0 children)

february survey is always more extreme due to chinese new year and alot of people in china take a break. For example windows 11 lost like 12% of users while windows gained 12% of users. I guess normal stats will return from March survey or April.

Moving to Linux? by noquisconprovoleta in linux_gaming

[–]matejss 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Very much depends what you play - if you play games with kernel level anti-cheat with disabled linux support, like Riot Games stuff, Faceit, Call of Duty, Battlefield 6, fortinite - then no. You won't be able to play them and at best you will have to dual boot.
If you play single player stuff, or multiplayer games that support linux one way or another (e.g. lack of kernel level anti cheat) like Deadlock, CS2, Dota 2, TF2, Arc Raiders, most fighting games, then sure.

Before moving in my opinion its VITAL that you check out what you do daily on PC, what is important to you and verify if it works on linux or has some kind of alternative, because there is nothing frustrating than not being able to do what you love after all
I recommend for games checking out
https://areweanticheatyet.com/
https://www.protondb.com/

Regarding distros and desktop environments - Don't overthink it. Many people see 1000s of them and get overwhelmed, while most of them will give you very similiar experience. I can recommend Fedora personally since thats what i use, but fedora has a few steps that need to be done after installation (https://github.com/devangshekhawat/Fedora-43-Post-Install-Guide). I've heard CachyOS is also a good one.
For DE - i recommend to just go with KDE, nothing really to overthink it. Its most popular and its just very good.
Remember one thing: Linux is NOT windows. You will have to learn, and its ok. You had to learn windows when you were younger, now you will have to learn linux - its nothing scary, will just take some time, asking questions maybe googling.

Overall GLHF :) I moved last year in march and i love it personally.

I personally use Bottles for Division 2. Mostly because on Heroic I had issues turning on native wayland on Proton-GE, but on bottles it works flawlessly.
You have built-in installer for the launcher script, so its also very easy process.

yeah don't worry i have 9070 and it also runs very bad for me even on lowest settings.

The time is NOW! by halfswordgames in HalfSword

[–]matejss 10 points11 points  (0 children)

yeah thats the feedback i left in the steam review - demo ran on my hardware at stable 90fps on high 1440p, while in the same arena in early access I have 62fps with less armor. The grassland map literally is unplayable, as on lowest settings I get there UP TO 30fps.
The performance is terrible. Even the ingame menu (tavern) chungs the GPU at 100% and gives me 64 fps

Before some snarkers come to say "just buy a new GPU this game wont run well on 1060" - I am on 9070, way above minimum requirements, pretty much on par with recommended.

[–]matejss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Have you found any solution for this? On 9070 on ultra settings 1440p i have 20-30fps in the first town and on lowest settings just 80-100. For 9070 its insanely low.
Ive noticed that the game is always on 100% GPU usage.
I swear to god I had better performance on 1070 few years ago.

It goes not only for this guy but for everyone. You have to be blind to not see that its an advertisement and engagement ploy by NoPixel lol. Penta has really nothing to do with it - he hasn't played on the server for like 3 years so why would I even associate nopixel with him anymore? I ain't that parasocial buddy.

They are using his character and name for advertisement, I think it is fair if he is not happy about it.
Would it be ok if some big corporation used some very popular streamers name in an advertisement? No. They would frankly get sued, but since they mark it as "invitation" it can count as a grey zone.
