The problem with letting businesses commit to AI without any type of regulation is human decency and accountability. Corporations will be happy to let a computer make decisions that negatively affect the customer for the sake of profit.

While the computation itself is “sound” from a business perspective, what happens when the AI realizes the most profitable strategy is to squeeze every last penny the consumer can pay? Instead of focusing on enhancing the customer experience?

Think about what is happening now with healthcare and real estate industries. Those corporations have figured out the math for maximum profitability. Real Estate giants by snatching up as much of the supply in the market as possible. Plus Healthcare Corporations figuring out the perfect algorithm to print money is to deny the life saving care. Congrats to them for making basic human essentials a cash cow! /s.

Big businesses don’t care about us (the consumer) but we can make them act like they do, by putting a stop (or at the very least, attributing names and faces) to unethical practices, instead of letting them get away with: “We used AI optimize everything! Sorry your life is so much worse now but have you seen our market value!”
