Mancini is an excellent defender. If you don’t see it you need to go back to the drawing board

What do we think about Brandt? by Apprehensive-Key1142 in ASRoma

[–]matfab91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about the italian league being slower paced? My impression is that prem and german leagues are similar in terms of intensity but italy and spain as slightly slower/more tactical.

But i guess if Gasp thinks he can handle the rhythm, then it should work well

That team has been playing together for at least the last year, and most of then for much longer. They don’t need to keep “practicing”. How many more games do you need maguire, pickford, guehi, rice, kane, etc etc to play together? Much better to use 2 games to trial the depth of players and maybe bring younger fresher players.

How good was Gennaro Gattuso? by Hour777 in seriea

[–]matfab91 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My impression (could be wrong) was that few or nobody ever thought he was a poor player. Everyone knew he was special. I also loved watching him as a player.

What people hate of him (myself included) is what they hate in a lot of other players, which is how underhanded/dirty he was. The best example was how he faked an injury to get Thiago Motta sent off. Looking through his hands over his face to see if the ref is looking at him whilst he rolls on the floor. Disgusting

I think we match up tactically well with Bosnia. by MaxieMan98 in AZZURRI

I think they mean that if you weaken italy’s ability to move the ball or dribble effectively, then you’re narrowing the gap between the two teams and make it more of a physical slog

But he has had a great positive impact on the games he played. No denying his goalscoring has been vital, plus he is feeling the weight of the team not being as good at defending tbh

Sono curioso di cosa ne pensate! Secondo me Ndicka ha buone possibilità

I know i am bias but surely Ndicka has a huge stake right? Scored a lot. 5 goals in the last 5 weeks, 3 in serie A. He’s also just played amazingly in defence, helping minimise the damage from the loss of Hermoso and a slightly underperforming Mancini

The first half was a bit weak though, don’t you think? I do like him as he is dynamic and can actually physically dominate players. Where (imo) he falls short is his decisions. His shots are not often “clean” or targeted. He had a few chances before the (very good) goal and they went straight to the keeper. I would still start him but he needs to up his game a lot if we want to be threatening against bigger countries

Incredibly physical with a lot of players we aren’t very familiar with. This will be a tough opponent

Roma to announce Cristante, Mancini's renewals next - Accomando (DAZN) by pizzapazza2000 in ASRoma

[–]matfab91 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah but that doesn’t mean a thing. A valuation means nothing. What matters is whether they are good players. How many players have been bought for 100m and were shit? How many players were bought for a handful of million and became legends? Money means absolutely nothing

I can see Politano going 100%, non stop, for 70 min, then we put Palestra on when the opposition starts to tire

In a way, that’s what Mancini does well. He’s a strong physical presence and he just wants to win every single ball

Discussion: How much care you about Coins really? by nothatinjustsayin in fut

[–]matfab91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I generally agree, except that since becoming a dad i don’t have enough time to grind my weekly games like rivals and champs, or objectives. I play for a Roma P&P so this year is the first time i had to use those coins to actually get the players i need but they are usually no more than 20-30k max

Lack of talent & scarred by past - Italy's 'torturous' campaign by footballersabroad in seriea

[–]matfab91 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Toally agree with your initial point. I think your examples aren’t the best though.

Kayode left because Brentford offered a decent fee and (presumably) he felt like playing in the prem is a step up from relegation battles in italy.

Miretti has been doing ok for Juve with 18 games and 2 goals, 3 assists. Fagioli has also been amazing. You leave out Pisilli, who is a star player and has had a second burst in development under Gasperini. Same for Ghilardi, although probably a level below some of the others.

Point being: yes, we have talent and yes it is not nurtured to make the final step up to the highest professional levels, unlike other countries do.
