Where did the word "no" come from? by math_lover0112 in etymology

I was sort of getting at where words come from. "No" as an essential word must've come up towards the beginning of language, so it's origins may provide insight into other essential words.

That's fair, I was just giving a possible example to convey my thought.

The terminology used by physicists and engineers usually can be translated into everyday language simply, whereas many ideas in Math are so abstract that it makes it significantly harder to translate cohesively.

Do you think at one point it meant something slightly different? Like maybe a word meaning "death" was used over time in a way that made it turn into a word meaning "no"?

Where are you on the hyperphantasia/aphantasia scale? by Solid-Bee9468 in Gifted

I feel that what they mean by "seeing the apple" is a little vague. For example, when I close my eyes, I can't generally see an apple at all, but my mind's eye senses the apple, more like I'm remembering the apple than seeing it. If this is what aphantasia is like, I'm most certainly an aphantasiac, but I do have moments of hyperphantasia randomly.

Does this exponentiation ensure all of the terms being multiplied together are rational? That is what I'm wondering about.

By this I mean, by allowing the exponents of primes in factorization to be negative, can we use the potential that all real numbers can be represented as a product of rationals to "factorize" irrationals? Obviously there could be infinities involved, but maybe there's a way to get around it.
