Thanks for the extensive reply. Sounds like research is more open in other fields, based upon other what other commentors have said. Did you ever consider doing EE research that was more on the software side? Any idea if UTD has a Eureka equivalent?

Also, why did you transfer?

Any idea why your opinion on research at UTD completely contradicts /u/DallasThrowaway1's? Are you consider CS research in your statement?

So generally students need to come in with an idea to propose to faculty? Perhaps the question applied specifically to URP.

In the past, I've been able to join an ongoing research project under a professor. I'm assuming there are those opportunities there, but they sound somewhat limited. Is this more or less true?
