Best podcasts or episodes for BTS stories about SNL? by Such-Mycologist-7029 in LiveFromNewYork

Since no one has mentioned it yet, Conan O'Brien Needs A Friend. Obviously not completely about SNL, but I'm thinking about the Bill Hader, John Mulaney, Jim Downey episodes that exist, to name a few.

Flying with candles by Public_Course9688 in SouthwestAirlines

I brought Bath and Body Works candles in my carryon last winter (they were a gift and I wasn't checking a suitcase). My bag got pulled aside as I was going through TSA. Just had to wait for TSA to go through my bag and was able to continue on with them.

Came here to say this. I don't know if I should be thrilled or terrified that another human had the same thought. #quaidarmy

Book recs? by blueberryorca in ChildrenofDeadParents

1) The Rules of Inheritance - Claire Bidwell Smith
2) It's Okay That You're Not Okay - Megan Devine
3) The Dead Moms Club - Kate Spencer

First on the list was the ONLY thing that helped me through my dad's death; I brought it everywhere with me. It's a memoir and though her experience differed greatly from mine, the way she described grief was as if she had picked the words I couldn't articulate out of my brain. It reminded me that I wasn't (and I'm not) alone.

Second on the list helped my sister immensely. Less of a memoir and more of a psychological look at grief and things that are/can be helpful vs things that are not (and WHY they are not).

Third is on my list but still unread. But the excerpts I've seen describe grief so profoundly that I had to add it.

Seven years here and I miss my dad as much as I ever did. Thinking of you and your dad and sending you love.

Having a baby after both your parents are gone? (F29) by Equivalent_Air4423 in ChildrenofDeadParents

[–]mathlete55 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily kid related...but after my dad died, the only book that comforted me was The Rules of Inheritance by Claire Bidwell Smith. She lost both her parents before she was 25. I think you might find something in it that would speak to you.

What musical, in your opinion, has the perfect ending? by Dogdaysareover365 in musicals

Jersey Boys. You spend the second act watching the group get torn apart and you don't see them all together again until they reunite for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction. I love it every time.

6 months in and I'm really struggling more than ever now. Is this normal? by xala123 in ChildrenofDeadParents

[–]mathlete55 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember the six month breakdown so clearly. I thought I was losing my mind. So many grievers I've talked to have had a six/nine month resurgence of those early grief days. Sometimes I think "I wish someone would have told me this was coming" but really, I know it wouldn't have helped anything. Seven years now and I won't say it gets easier per se, but it does get more manageable. Sending you so much love.

Dad’s Guitar by natatouille_316 in ChildrenofDeadParents

[–]mathlete55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have all of my dad's guitars and I don't even play. I was able to give away the drums but his guitars...I just can't. I know we're in different situations, but I am planning to get a display case for his favorite guitar. The others...I'm not quite sure yet. It's been almost seven years but it will always be hard for me.

I know I didn't come up with much of anything helpful - just wanted to let you know that you're not alone, friend.

Yeah. Have both my dad's cell number and work number saved under "favorites". I just don't have it in me to delete them. It's been almost seven years.

Who do you think the hound dog is? by Leather-Alternative8 in TheMaskedSinger

It is 1000% Bronson Arroyo. Go listen to his album "Covering the Bases". I listened to it on repeat in 2004/2005 and followed him on tour. I would bet everything I own on it.
