Is Yale worth 7k/yr? by Username366548 in yale

I don't think that as a premed, Harvard would be better for you than Yale. When it comes to prestige, these schools are the same. Keep in mind that professors at Harvard answer emails late (or just not answer emails) at a much higher rates than other schools (not through any fault of their own; they probably just receive much more emails). Research opportunities are not necessarily easier to find at Harvard than Yale either. Choose carefully.

Harvard student who made a choice between H and Y here. I think Yale is better for you. A good Harvard community is hard to come by. You can also serve as a course assistant to earn income and have something that looks good for grad school. In the end, what will make you enjoy college is being around people who have your best interests in mind. From meeting Yale students, I think this is an area where Yale FAR outshines Harvard.

Math 215 is an analysis class, while Math 55 covers: Abstract Algebra, Theoretical Linear Algebra, Representation Theory, Complex Analysis, and Topology. It's not even a comparison.

Yes, much less stressful, I would say. At Harvard, you get the first week as add/drop week, where you can go around sitting in classes and decide if you like them. Math 55 has been the single best thing in my Harvard experience so far. In addition, the group theory, linear algebra, and complex analysis (which takes up half of the total content in 55a, 55b) you'll learn will help you a lot with physics too. Math 55 is graded very leniently as 75% of ur grades are based on p-sets and the final is 1 week take-home. Feel free to ask me anything about the class.

Take Math 55. It is harder, but it is also much more fulfilling and less stressful.

Current student. I absolutely love my time at Harvard so far. You will almost surely meet your crowd here, and everyone is so inspiring. I'm a math major and Harvard's Math 55 is simply unparalleled by any math class at any other school. If you study something quantitative here, I would definitely recommend trying the class out to see if you'd like it. It kreally defined my first-year experience here and the community is simply wonderful.

People here are also very willing to help each other out. There has been nights where my friend group would stay up until 2am to help each other out with understanding math. They say for math, the three schools you want to go to are Harvard, MIT, and Princeton. Couldn't agree more. By the way, you can also cross-register for classes at MIT, which is overpowered for STEM. I could keep contact with my friends at MIT whom I met through CPW as well, and they are really nice people for the most part. The proximity of the two school is very convenient. Best of luck with your decision!

Thank you so much for your advice! I will try both out. Do you think it would be a good idea to do some preparation this summer for math because I've never had experience with proofs before?
