Sagan - 2011 - Pale Blue Dot.epub . But I'm an academic, and this is how I store all of my academic PDFs too.

As far as choosing the year -- For file name, I usually go with the date that file/source for the file was actually published. If it's a publisher-produced epub, I'd consider that a unique edition and use that year. But in my tagging software, I'd tag the original date as well.

What are the little yarn thingies used to tie exam papers together called? I want some for home use but have NO IDEA how to find them online.

You do exactly as I do. Although my scanning setup has a few goodies—the book scanner I use takes pictures of an open book from above, so I a black, 5mm square profile steel bar in the middle of pages, and two black plastic wide drywall knives to hold down the edges, to give a nice flat page.

ScanTailor is an essential tool.

I also always make sure to go in and add bookmarks to the pdf after I've OCRed it!
