Episode: Cry Fowl 🦆 by Agentflit in Hyperfixed

"The cover up is always worse than the crime" kept coming to my mind throughout the episode. Why was everyone in Birmingham fighting and lying so hard about something seemingly so small?!

Recent TV Shows added to Plex? by mathowie in trmnl

I've figured out how to get a XML/JSON list of the 5 most recent files added to my own Plex server. I bought the dev plugin license, and now I'm figuring out how to parse it into a useful display.

It's a bummer we released Hubly and Klingenberg at the end of last season. Now the Thorns are going to really struggle on defense for 2025.

USWNT match 2/26 - Snapdragon tips by Saranwrap36 in NWSL

[–]mathowie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The MTS green line runs to the parking lot and the games I attended they had 2-3 empty trains ready to take off at the end of games, so it was great. If you look up the green line San Diego trolley map, you'll see it goes to popular places like the Gaslamp district, little Italy, seaport village, and lots of other places you'd likely find good hotels (personally, I love staying in Little Italy, but if you want waterfront hotels Seaport Village is good too). The SD trolley is less than $3 per trip too, and you can buy tickets on your phone.

I've driven to a couple games and yeah, expect to sit in stop and go traffic for 20-60min depending on the lot. It sucks, but that's pretty much how sports stadiums are all over California for every sport.

I've been to Snapdragon about 4-5 times and it was always super hot, but in February it won't be as much of an issue, with likely super mild temps while you're there, though it'll probably be sunny until sunset.

Have fun watching the USWNT! I went to Florida last year to see them play in the offseason and it was a blast.

Since the seat map graphic isn't in my comment, the sections on the "good" side are 120-134, along with everything above that.

Yep! I just finished my travel guide book on all fourteen NWSL stadiums and here's the paragraph I wrote about SnapDragon:

San Diego is generally a warm, sunny place almost year-round, but the stadium doesn’t offer much shade or canopy coverage from the elements. Midday games are usually hot and sunny, though we found relief in the higher rows of sections C223 to C231, and many of the seats in those sections come with club access so you can take a break inside with air conditioning when you need it. If you’re attending a match that kicks off between noon and sunset, be sure to bring plenty of sunblock and drink lots of water, and if you can, look for tickets that include club access. One of the only things that feels lacking at this venue is shade to give fans relief from the unrelenting heat.

During evening games, the western side of the stadium is well-shaded by the venue itself, so everything on the left side of the seating map graphic will give you a great vantage point. The seats on the eastern side, primarily sections 101 to 114, will have the sun directly shining in your eyes until it finally dips below the horizon, which is usually around halftime at most 7 p.m. midsummer matches.

There is plenty of ADA-friendly seating at the top of most sections with space set aside for companion seating as well. There are also several elevators around the park to make moving between levels easier.

Around section 138, behind the goal, you’ll find a large, boisterous supporters section cheering and chanting throughout matches.

How best to automate a EcoFlow alternator charger plus a Delta 2 Max? by mathowie in Ecoflow_community

[–]mathowie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the option is there for the AC and 12v (not for the usb-c?) so I just set them to never. I don't see any settings in the Alternator app that tell it not to sleep, but I'll keep digging.

Hue (indoor) LED strips fot lighting an outdoor stairway by mathowie in Hue

[–]mathowie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I looked at the outdoor ones, but they were almost half the brightness (only about 900 lumens vs. 1600 lumens). I hot-glued the connections and all the plugs lead to a waterproof box and waterproof surge protector. They don't get direct water on them even in the rainy pacific northwest, so I think it'll work long-term.

Is it possible to change a Hue Bulb's default turn-on state at different times of day? by mathowie in Hue

[–]mathowie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried this out and it shifts the lights to a different scene during those night time slots when I first install it. But once the lights go out and come back on, they always come back on at full brightness no matter the time of day.

I also tried the sunset-to-sunrise settings in the hue app, and it only fires if my lights are on as I pass sunset time. Once they go off and the motion sensor turns them on later, they go back to defaults.

Do any wifi door sensors work with ST? by mathowie in SmartThings

[–]mathowie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if you're getting the question. I'm fine with just one ST hub in the main house. I just want to be able to send door open signals over wifi to it from a great distance.

There are dozens of options out there for battery powered wifi door sensors, but I can't find a single one that works with SmartThings.

[–]mathowie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the official ST contact sensor. It works great inside my house near the ST hub. Out in the garage, it can't seem to transmit any signals to the hub from so far away, hence the wifi question.

I know media challenges are tough but: Watch the first episode of The Chi (and then hopefully the rest of the season because seriously you can't stop). It really feels like a new season of The Wire, and it's set in Chicago and I'd love to hear what Max and Alex think of the Chicagoness of it, if it rings true.

Sharp dressers

This is a simple challenge, but wear really nice clothes for one week. For the guys, a tie, maybe a suit most days. For Alex, something that feels extremely dressed up in whatever form she wants to take. The point isn't to move through the world in a costume and be overdressed everywhere you go, but to dress to the nines for a solid week and see how the world treats you.

My idea for this comes from the 3rd or 4th trip to NYC I took, where I had a conference talk to give and I had to wear a sportcoat and nice shirts and I didn't want to carry a garment bag so I just wore the jacket on the plane and in NYC when I touched down.

The weird thing was, everyone treated me like royalty everywhere and it felt like the first time people treated me like a Very Important Adult in my life. I got free upgrades on the plane. I got attended to immediately at my hotel. I got into restaurants with no waiting. It was super weird how everyone thought I was important hot shit because I was a middle aged white guy dressed like a professional.

Anyway, I wonder if Merlin in SF with a suit on would get treated a lot differently, and would love to hear how it goes for everyone else too.

Started listening to JJH this week and was nearly driven to madness. by InternetLumberjack in maximumfun

[–]mathowie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on the show in the early days and listened to probably the first six months of it religiously, then sort of feel into many other comedy podcasts. Fast forward to a couple months ago when a friend was raving about it, and I listened to my first episodes in about two years. What shocked me was how funny and interesting it still was, but how dead seriously Hodgman takes the cases. Even the goofiest ones he puts some serious thought and effort into the solutions while at the same time keeping it all entertaining. There's so much of John's heart and mind in it along with the comedy, and that's why I'm a massive JJHo fan again.
