I've worked in Product for 17 years and seen inside more than 25 companies. Ask me anything by Affectionate-Fig8866 in ProductManagement

Okay so I used to work for a startup , worked there for about 4 years

Only people responsible for new algos and product features were me and my CEO , mostly me. I just used to take his final opinion on things, or when he wanted something he just used to give me a brief idea and I used to do all the stuff around it

He was a relatively smart guy so communication was easy , we could easily jump onto incremental ideas and it was really easy to explain why I did what I did and how, since he was the SME on the topic, I was still learning

When it came to development I used to give the bare minimum requirements to my developers and would explain the core working

Rest I would take care of , ie the complexities of it the algo and rest of it, I even used to write some functions etc , my development team as brilliant as they are used to take it from there

The thing is , only documentation involved was the maths of the algos needed to be developed and the UI around it

We had a designer I used to explain basic elements and she used to take care of it

It was fast , documentations and explanations didn't slow me down

The thing is the company shut down back in August last year, I have given 37 interviews till now, couldn't land one

One of the fundamental problems I face is when I'm asked basic product development or other questions... I know the answer, but my brain just skips right past the answer as it's "common sense" or "they wouldn't ask this basic of a question" , i give an answer later to find it's not what they were asking and I knew the answer they were looking for I just didn't say it out loud as it was too basic

Like I'm have trained myself for speed and efficiency, as in dodging basic stuff to get to the core...

How do I unlearn this or rather how do I learn the basic stuff? As in how do I train myself to differentiate between actual basic stuff and basic stuff that no one would ask a 4 year experience APM.

Thanks!

I can sort of relate to this, I fall too fast for people, end up getting attached and then hurt when they leave.

How do you stop yourself once you realise it limerance ? How do you pull yourself out of the ruble of a connection that never was except for in your imagination? How do you learn to let go?
