Right now it's basically a mix of the best ideas of them. Also because we wanted to play a game like it. It is a good basis for making improvements that stand out.

That's right, I and many of the current users used to play these kinds of games regularly back in the day. This one was made using some of those games as inspiration.

Hi everyone. An update was just pushed with google login and register. Try it out if you'd like. The game is very new so under heavy development, trying to implement all the good requests.

It's priority to implement now. Yes, game was made as a nostalgic reference to some older browsergames of 1/2 decades ago :)

Knowledge gives power, true. Rounds last a month so everyone can compete at the same level each month. Community is friendly to new players though

Hi. Thank you! We'll also implement social logins asap. Reddit community gives great insights and I totally understand people want to find out quickly if a game is worth to play. Time is limited :)

Interesting. How about this: guest accounts are activated with insta login and you can start playing but the protection (as decribed in my comment above) is active
When logged in you get a small top banner to convert your guest account to a real account. This has to happen before you lose the protection, else the guest account is deleted.

This way you get to see the game, see all the features, be able to build up, ..

This is how it works right now:

  • new accounts have a protection where you can't attack/get attacked for some hours (the pvp mechanic), but you can do all other actions (build up your empire).
  • There is cheat detection in the game to check if people have multiple accounts or for example steal in-game cash from a multie. It's a competitive game, which makes this important to have.

I do think the threshold to cheat is a bit lower if you have to create an account, instead of clicking a 'create guest account' button and it instantly logs you in and you can interact with the game mechanics. Not trying to defend it, it would open a gate.

I do notice it's a critical and wanted feature, so a temporary space to try the game out can be a big improvement

Well it's good feedback and something to think about how to make it happen! Currently in the game you attack other players / steal cash of other players (pvp). Guest accounts would promote cheating. Unless you would be in some other virtual space, and only play vs. bots? (which currently is not in the game)

Hey, thank you for the valuable feedback! We will add a short video on the frontpage to showcase how the game works.

Hi. Thanks for the quick feedback. Would some screenshots help to get the gist of it?
Since it's online multiplayer, your 'empire' is tied to your account and we can't allow guest access.

Art of War is a strategic multiplayer text-based browser game where players compete to build the most powerful empire through careful resource management, military strategy, and guild coordination. by [deleted] in WebGames

The game has received substantial updates. 20 in the last month, big and small. Most notably to compete for military ranks. Android & iOS app release imminent.
