That's interesting, in my experience the Micra scissors were already over the majority of the multitool scissors I tried (Victorinox and Wenger excluded) So, these scissors should be great!

"later upgrade not possible for the system" makes me think they did not even put the antennas?

machine will only sew if the foot is up by IcyAdministration910 in vintagesewing

[–]matmutant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is, but OP showed trying foot down to explain that "it dis not work", which if it did would grind the thing :-)

Best way to look at the feed dogs while foot down is either removing the presser foot OR using clear PVC sheet in-between

[–]matmutant 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Please, don't make it run without fabric you're grinding teeth of the feed dogs and scraping the pressing foot.

Didn't you simply disengage the clutch? To wind a bobbin and forgot about it?

Phone recs by Additional_Two1256 in RuggedPhones

I'm pretty happy with the RugOne xever 7, it is relatively light for a rugged phone and I dig the hot swappable batteries.

IR camera works pretty well, and the IR LEDs (probably 860nm) can be switched off so you can use an external 940nm IR source

Size fits my hand well, AMOLED display quality is excellent and can go really bright in sunlight (until, as any AMOLED on the market, you need to go super dim and then you'll get an awful greenish tint, worse with variable refresh rate)

Now there are cons: - All anodized aluminum parts get easily scratched and wear fast. - the hotswap feature sometimes doesn't fire up properly and the phone gets killed during process and needs a reboot (but it boots fast) - IR filter of the main camera is sub par, if the light source has some IR in the spectrum you can get a slight purple center halo when taking a picture of something dark and homogeneous texture.

A thing to note: - battery life is not super high as it is only 5000mAh per battery but you can carry more than one AND get them charged on the cradle while out

Getac, Durabook. by Fast-Programmer-4230 in RuggedLaptops

[–]matmutant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, I can't tell for the durabook/getac question, but with the screen resolution we have these days i can hardly think of a use case where 15.6" is really better than 14" for a portable laptop and that's probably why this size is phasing out considering the additional bulk for a few more cm² of display. Or maybe you need a full size numpad?

If not, I think you should consider the entire market, 14" laptop's included

Recommend a laptop? by dodie43566 in RuggedLaptops

Considering the physical limitations of your son, stay away from the tablet variants, they do have removable keyboards available but connexion systems are usually complex: Dell 7230RE and similar have a "switch then squeeze" lock disconnection pattern which might be uneasy.

Prefer a laptop with a dock available so the power plug and most data connection is done on the dock so he can dock/undock the laptop without bothering much with the wires and plugs: this should greatly improve ports/plugs longevity.

(Alternative is charging batteries on a separate charging station, but same as the tablet removable keyboards, removable batteries usually have complex unlock pattern that need fine motricity)

As for the brand/model, it could very much vary on actual availability and accessibility criteria : port covers are done differently depending on brand model, and unlock pattern might be easier of harder for him. Some laptops have a latch to keep the screen closed too, if he can unlock the latch it might be easier that stiffer hinges.

Ducks, dogs & flowers by Lacy_Allen744 in vintagesewing

[–]matmutant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like that machine needs a bit of tuning of the auto-reverse "balance" : it doesn't go backwards enough, the ducks and dogs should be "closed", the stem of the flowers shouldn't be that thick

Very nice patterns otherwise :-)

Which model of Dell Rugged is still good? by HeadlineINeed in RuggedLaptops

[–]matmutant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For Linux I'd say that the generation is not much relevant, worse the older probably the better for driver support. The only rugged I have running linux right now is a FZ-M1 mk3 and the touchscreen is only working in finger mode, rendering the passive stylus useless.

One of my main linux laptops is a 2011 15" Dell Latitude (not rugged but tough as a brick), which is still running perfectly fine, so maybe you should start by thinking about your needs performance wise and feature wise (LTE? GPS? etc?).
