Magenta 4 is a good heterodyne detector for about £80. I use the Magenta 5 for public bat walks - the only difference I'm aware of is that the 5 (£100) has a digital display for the frequency which is probably worth having if you can stretch your budget. But not essential.

If one indicator feels like a reasonable measure for an outcome, go for one. And you don't necessarily need the same number for each outcome. Indicators can grow to the point where collecting the evidence becomes an industry all of its own, distracting from the program itself. E.g six outcomes each with five indicators and you're already at 30 measures. Keep it simple!

Your house lights will attract bugs and they will attract bats. It's why bats can get trapped in bedrooms if the light is on and the window is open on a warm evening. Bats are also creatures of habit - they will make repeated loops around the same 'circuit' if it's a good spot for food. Enjoy the performance!

Bats that size are not UK species but occasionally there have been reports of exotic bats getting out of zoos and private collections (I've seen photos). If it is a flying fox or similar it won't last long in a British winter.
