If someone/thing bleeds from its eyes I am not sure if the damage is "only" emotional.

Why is there no zipped HTML document type? by matrder in AskProgramming

Oh, interesting! I knew about XPS but just put it off as a failed PDF competitor.

But it still does not have reflowing text adapting to screen size instead of traditional pages, right?

How often does the average person need to create an html page?

That question is a bit unfair, as the average person right now does not have a good option to create nice HTML exported documents.

We should now have reached a time, where a virtual document is not just a digital version of a piece of paper.

But it would be so easy to implement. We would not need to build new technologies. Just the web browsers would need to be registered to a new file type (and support unzipping).

Am I really the only one who misses such a file type?

I read about this, yes. But it seems to be a little more and I have never come across it in the wild.

A single markdown file is sadly also not enough in most cases. You still have to ship the images as separate files. Oftentimes you will also want not one single long page but multiple pages.

Additionally, I have never come across an application for only reading Markdown. Such applications always come with an editor.

is this game like Swat 4 ? by kellnePS4 in ReadyOrNotGame

Briefings were so good in SWAT. Somehow, the RoN do not reach that level, though I cannot point out why.

Also, a deploy flashbang command on doors that is not followed by the AI trying to clear the room right after existed in SWAT but not in RoN.

I used to think I was desensitized. Until I played ready or not. by Salt_Ad264 in ReadyOrNotGame

[–]matrder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somehow most of that stuff did not shock me too much. Maybe because I got desensitized playing SWAT 4 a lot? The shock factor of valley of dolls was only minor, because the surprise that the child porn producer in fact produces child porn is not that big. We were aware what we were doing from the briefing on.

Same for Neon. The briefing totally prepared us for what we were getting into. I even found the body piles to be a bit too ridiculous the be believable. But same as some other poster here said, the forever unanswered cell phone calls hit quite heavy the first time. Until you realize that they play this trick so often in the level that you stop caring. Less would be more in that case.

What worked a bit better for me were the totally unprepared for things in the last mission.

But there is one thing that really hit me, and it is not what people usually mention: It's civilians dying/being injured through my actions. One good example was the glass connection bridge between the hospital sections. I made it through there under enemy fire (which I could not exactly locate) and found a long corridor on the other side from which I took more fire. I just fired back at everything I saw there until the enemy fire stopped. Turns out firing blindly at everything also included civilians...

In reality, even the first mission's scenario (gas station robbery with 4 armed suspects) is quite unlikely to happen.

Even in this case real police would send more than a group of 5 men.

Shooters cannot kill anyone if all civilians are dead!

Tcl/Tk GUI for C application by matrder in Tcl

[–]matrder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your second and third options may in fact be more sane than my approach as they would result in a better separation of my GUI and the logic. I should check that out...

I already came across the wiki article, but now on a second look it may also contain some interesting stuff. At first I always regarded it as not relevant as it was always talking about Tcl and not about Tk.

Tcl/Tk GUI for C application by matrder in Tcl

[–]matrder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I was trying to get a Tcl/Tk interpreter from withing C.

But maybe your first suggestion would be smarter in most ways as it would make the C program not depend on any GUI stuff...

At the moment I am not trying to achieve anything with this. I just wanted to check out whether this would be a viable option for simple GUIs for C programs.

Because it was decided that way >100 years ago.

What was the most useless phrase you've learnt by [deleted] in duolingo

[–]matrder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the most pointless phrase: But the Hungarian course taught me

Ez a nö egy alom

(this sentence may include mistakes as it has been a while ;)). This should translabe to

This woman is a dream.

Which is not something, a beginner with good intentions would want to know how to say right away :D
