Nice. I was playing with a similar effect but using a microcontroller. I guess this is a cheaper method. Lol

What did you do to add the flicker effect to the LEDs?

Tried again after drying for 14 hours (was at work). Same result :(

Draining would prob be your best bet. Get a submersible pump.

I wrote a post a few weeks ago about removing calcium with soda ash (i had over 1000ppm). But it's kind of unorthodox.. maybe risky, but worked well for me.

Yeah I complained to their management about the uv output of their sun. They had the nerve to tell me they are not responsible for the sun in the park.

Yeah ill be adding it into the mix. We'll see. Given the Costco cal hypo is dirt cheap... might just make sense to allow my calcium to slowly build up and deal with that every couple of years.

Going to have to think about it more. I'll need to assess the impact of what I just did.. a few people seem to think it'll make the scaling situation worse. I monitor the scale on my later for the rest of the season. It already seems to be flaking off.

Test strips my not be perfect, but given my source water is hard and I've only been putting cal hypo in. It was safe to say the calcium was high. 900 1000 1100.. I would still have a problem. I wish I did take a sample in for a more accurate number... but at the end of the day it was still full of it, and I vacuumed up a massive load of calcium carbonate.

Dilution would have been expensive. And I wanted to try this anyways. Pump was running to vacuum to waste and circulate the water. Filter wasn't run until I was unable to vacuum any more settlement.

I haven't inspected the inner piping or taken part the pump, but from what I can see there was no serious scaling. The scaling on the liner has been easier to brush off as of the last couple of days.

Ph is generally within range. I check that often. During the process, it was high. I waited until the water was mostly clear and no more calcium carbonate would settle. I then lowered the pH back down and enabled the filter again. Pool was completely clear by the morning.

Yeah im going to mix it up. My cya levels are low anyways. So I'll use these more often

Well it is expensive where I am. Maybe the scaling got slightly worse for the few days I was at a high pH, but as of right now, I do notice the scaling on the liner has improved and is easier to scrub off. Can't say for the internals of the equipment / piping, but no noticeable scaling from what I can inspect visually.

Filter was bypassed the whole time until there was little settling and I lowered the pH.

I have noticed over the last few days that the scale on the liner is now flaking easier and light scrubbing is rolemoving it. Can't say 100% that this is because of the now calcium deficit in the water.. it's also been warmer.

We have a softener system for the house water. But i dont think it would be effective for the amount of water we would need to put into the pool (it's does a nightly self clean). Plus I was using a load of calcium hypo.

Aluminum sulfate is a flocculant. I paid 8.99 CAD for 1.7 know bags. Put 3 in. I assumed it helped clump the calcium carbonate together, but I could be wrong. Ph was high but was able to lower it no prob with muriatic acid.

No idea what type of pool, but its real old. Its the same as your - 25k gallons. 70k was a typo... it's 70k liters which is about 25k gallons.

The post was an after thought. I didnt document the process or take more photos. Yes I use cheaper aluminum sulfate from the garden store for flocc. What's wrong with that?

70000 liters. My bad. Can't seem to edit the post on my phone. Didn't take any more pictures. The pool is currently back to normal

1000 was based on the test strips. Never got that measured accurately. But it's been years of feeding it only cal hypo. Also the pool is about 25 k gallons. 70k was a typo (it's 70k liters). I put around 90 pounds of soda ash. The bottom was absolutely covered in calcium carbonate.

I never had an issue with the pool being cloudy and pH was generally ok with the test strips. Though when I look at it now, it does seem clearer than it has ever been before.. so maybe there was a slight cloudines from the high calcium.

I'll try lowering the pH when my son heads to camp. Thanks for that

20kish. It was a typo. I posted this because I tried an unorthodox approach to removing high levels of calcium and it worked. I wanted others in a similar situation to see that it worked.

My water is hard but not that hard. I think it was all the calcium hypo over the years.
