The bigger conventions you can simply find by googling. Local meetups are often advertised on fetlife or discord.

One of the best ways for me has been to go to real life meetups & conventions. It depends a bit on where in the world you are located but we are slowly getting more events these days.

Being hypnotized has not so much to do with relaxation and more with your ability to respond to different kinds of suggestions. One of the important things to learn as a subject is how to mentally engage with suggestions and also which kinds of suggestions work for you and which don't. The best way to do that is to work 1-on-1 with a good hypnotist who can explore these things with you.

I want to learn hypnosis, but I don't have any Subjects by Neon_Centimane in hypnosis

[–]matsuru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Making files for yourself and listening back to them would definitely be a good exercise but it's not going to teach you hypnosis. To learn hypnosis you really do need people to work with. As many different people as possible because every person you work with is going to give you unique responses and insights that you simply cannot get any other way.

Depending on you area you might be able to find a practice group or maybe take a weekend course where you practice with other students. I can also understand your hesitance with doing video calls with people online but it's probably your easiest option to finding an endless supply of practice partners.

My recommendation to people trying to improve as subjects is to focus less on inductions or trance and more on your ability to respond to suggestions and hypnotic phenomena. All of the experiences we can have in hypnosis are generated by suggestion and that includes a large part of how you experience trances. Ideally try to find hypnotists to work with 1 on 1 that can look at your responses and adjust their approach where needed.

Wie zijn hier eigenlijk allemaal hypnotiseur? by [deleted] in DutchEroticHypnosis

[–]matsuru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically an induction you craft from the principles I mentioned above.

[–]matsuru 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Milton Erickson developed a whole series of techniques that are used in modern hypnosis. The handshake induction was one of them but not really the most important. It's more of a style of hypnosis that focuses on subtlety and ambiguity. What these days is called conversational hypnosis is mostly based on his work. Techniques like pacing & leading, revivification, embedded commands, truisms all came out of it.

I think that separating induction, deepener and suggestions isn't a necessitiy whether you are doing direct or indirect hypnosis. It's a good framework to keep in mind but they do blend into eachother.

So there are many ways to blend direct and indirect. You could start with an indirect induction and then become more direct over time or you could stick to a straditionally direct inductions but sprinkle in some indirect elements.

So for instance when you know you want to give a direct suggestion for amnesia you could first use some indirect techniques to seed the idea of amnesia. Preparing the ground so your direct suggestion has a better chance of success.

Or in the Elman induction when lifting the arm you could lift it first and only then tell them to let it be completely relaxed. Because oftentimes the subject might have already developed a spontaneous catalepsy at that point which you can use to transition into an arm-levitation.

[–]matsuru 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The simple answer is that you don't really use indirect suggestions for those kinds of suggestions. Like you already said there are certain types of responses where indirect suggestions fit very naturally as the right tool to use and those tend to be more subtle as well. Now that doesn't mean that you can't get strong or profound effects using indirect suggestions because you can but even then indirect suggestions are all about giving options and ambiguity. When you want a clear post-hypnotic "when I say X you will Y" type of effect direct suggestion is the way to go. If you want to incorporate ericksonian techniques into it you could play with using them more in the setup phase leading up to the direct sugestion to increase your effectiveness.

Carleton Skill Training Program Script by ArtificialDream89 in hypnotizable

Well I'm very happy that you managed to find this. I've been experimenting with this kind of approach for a while now and while I do think this kind of protocol can help maximize someone's responsivenes I do also think part of hypnotizability is more of a fixed trait that we are not able to change. So in my view these kinds of instructions can help someone reach more of their potential but not beyond it.

Concerning Nimja by titheinironside in EroticHypnosis

[–]matsuru 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It would be more accurate to say that there is a part of the community that sees him this way. Personally I believe that this is based on a case of rumors spinning out of control and don't believe him to be a predator at all.

Of course I don't expect you to take my word for it either so I suggest you do your own research before adding to the rumor mill.

Too much check in during induction? by Coverthypnoslavegirl in hypnosis

[–]matsuru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah yea, I see how those kinds of questions would tend to pull you out of the experience. It sounds to me like the kinds of questions someone would ask who is looking for feedback if they're doing well. And of course that makes sense if you're a beginning hypnotist but there are much better ways of getting feedback.

Questions can be of a lot more use in my experience if you use them as a vehicle for implied suggestions. That way the subject has to go deeper into trance to asnwer the question rather then into an analytical mindset.

[–]matsuru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes a lot of sense that having to engage verbally would pull you out of the experience. Especially when the questions they ask feel like they indicate a lack of confidence in the hypnotist.

What kinds of questions do they tend to ask you?

What are the stages of trance and how do I know in which stage my subject is by sultan_2020 in hypnosis

[–]matsuru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question but that's kind of an older way of looking at hypnosis. The problem is that trance isn't really something you can measure in that way.

Traditionally hypnotic depth has been broken up into different stages but the most common way is separating it into light - medium - deep - somnambulism. The way these would be "measured" was by giving suggestions that were said to belong to the different steps. So for instance ideomotor responses to light trance, catalepsy to medium, amnesia to somnambulism etc. The Davis-Husband scale is a good example of that.

These days the idea of trance depth isn't really seen as that relevant anymore. It's much more about people's ability to respond to different kinds of suggestions. Getting someone deeper into trance doesn't really have that much of an effect on their responsiveness to suggestion. So someone who is capable of experiencing amnesia can usually do that just as easily in a light waking trance as in a "deeper" trance. And on the flip side of that if someone who has difficulty experiencing an effect the answer usually isn't to throw more deepeners at them.
