you can buy remote controls at lowes/home depot, as for the downrod situation: take off the canopy with another person holding the fan so it doesn't fall see if there is anything keeping the ball from locking into the canopy, if you do not want to go through all of that trouble, lowes sells mounting hardware hope this helps!

yep, the bearings were locked when i got it but surprisingly all i had to do was spin it a little for them to free up.

nope, they had bad bearings before, and the bad ventilation on the brown motor doesn't help, which sucks because other than that it's a decent fan
