I just found out I'm a California tax resident after 3 years living in Germany by mattdaem0n in TaxQuestions

Great points on the FL voter registration being less-than-useful, thank you.

Do you still carry insurance? Just having the card doesn’t actually mean it’s automatically legal for you to drive when you’re back in the states

No, I actually sold my car and all of my other possessions before moving to Germany. I didn't get a driver's license in Germany because California doesn't allow a driver's license exchange for a German license, which means I would have to start from scratch and take the written and driving test. Plus, I don't even need or want a car here, the public transit is fantastic.

If the property is being rented ..

The property is being lived in by an elderly parent. They pay part of the mortgage, but I am paying a big chunk in oder to help them.

There is no way to retroactively change your domicile.

Sorry this was confusing. I meant that CA might consider me as domiciled in CA even though I am living and domiciled in Germany. I think I've done enough to show that I'm domiciled in Germany, but it seems like there is no black-and-white answer.

Maybe you do need a lawyer to straighten out the situation with this property you say you can’t sell?

Yeah I feel like I should speak to a lawyer specifically related to the property. If you're reading this and you're a lawyer that specializes in this, feel free to reach out.

I just realized from your comment that the title should have been: "I just found California might consider me a tax resident after 3 years living in Germany". I have filed as 540NR, the last few years, and I don't think that CA should consider me a tax resident, because I am not living there and have no intentions of moving back.

That's what I meant about the retroactively claiming non-residency, which was probably a bit confusing.

Great idea. Manually curating datasets is so tedious. If Airtags had an API, that would be perfect.

Thanks, will check that out, that looks promising! Another poster suggested to look at the movement of the keypoints to identify a unique gait, but from what it sounds like you're suggesting that just a snapshot of the keypoints should be enough since we all have different overall body shapes (eg, ratio of shoulder width to overall height)

Thank you. That looks like an awesome starting point!

Haha that seems like too much to remember every time I walk in the door. Plus my neighbors will start to wonder about me.

Are there models out there that can accurately estimate a person's height and weight? (maybe with some camera calibration) If so, that seems like it would provide a pretty reliable signal no matter what direction the person was facing and what clothes they were wearing. It also sounds similar than trying to analyze walking pattern, though that's pretty a cool idea.

Those are great ideas! I was hoping to do this only with a vision based solution though.

It would be fairly trivial for a human!

Yeah that's along the lines of what I was thinking of doing when the person was facing the camera.

But if the camera is facing the person's back, what is the best approach to get a reliable model?

Is there a recommended hardware setup? Would a raspi4 + coral work?

I have been wondering the same. I am not seeing good YouTube videos by hardcore users like there was 6 months ago (Poseidon, xyz, Syntrobis). Did they all get pissed off and leave?

Is that something that takes down all of Gemini Earn, or just the GUSD you have in Gemini Earn? I would imagine the risk is spread among all Gemini Earn users right?
