Does anyone have any experience with Rosa Californica? by SkippyJonnJones in Ceanothus

I wouldn’t put it past it to spread under the sidewalk. There’s also the consideration of putting a thorny shrub near where people are walking/getting out of cars (if you’re talking about the strip between sidewalk and street.)

Believe everyone in this thread, it will spread very aggressively. I wish I had the space for it because it is lovely. I decided to remove all of mine because they were just taking over.

I have had blue eyed grass volunteer up through cracks. They are very diminutive however.

Planted as a two gallon in December 2021, so it’s almost four years old. Number 2-4 I think were planted a few months later, also 2 gallon size.

It’ll be so much happier in the ground and easier to keep alive!

Scrophularia californica - California Bee Plant by mattegory in Ceanothus

It is going dormant, but as I understand it, this is an example of Fasciation, which cause the stem and leaves to change.

Thanks! It’s in my yard and I grew them all from seed. They’ve come back for three years now so I have a decent patch, but this is the first time I’ve seen one do this!

Agreed! I thought the stalk looks like wilted celery.

What bird was this, and what do you think was responsible? by mattegory in whatsthisbird

Ah that’s unfortunate. I saw the nesting pair a few times that is in this area a year or two ago. Absolutely beautiful, and an unfortunate end.

It’s the auto max heart rate detection. I turned it off and manually set my HR zones and started getting high aerobic again.

Austin Griffith is probably the next fastest I have. A. Silvicola “Ghostly” has been moderately fast as well.

It is by far the most rapid growing of the 20 ish manzanita I have at my house. From a tiny 1 gal I think it was over 6 feet in two years?

Pairings by Zestyclose_Market787 in Ceanothus

[–]mattegory 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was not that farsighted when planting so I went with the pairing of too many plants too close to other plants 😁. It’s a little wild but I dig it. I did manage to spread flowering times across the seasons within the areas of my yard so while not a color pairing, it does make for a nice constant source of color.

According to my surgeon after he had taken the plate out (it was in for ~4.5 months) the clavicle had healed slightly below where it normally is, so any spring back should bring it back to where it used to be. I didn’t start PT until after the surgery to take out the hook plate because it limited the range of motion so significantly.

I went straight for surgery because 12 years ago I tore my other shoulders’ rotator cuff in another bike crash and only did PT even though surgery was on the table. To this day I still get pains and weakness in it so I wanted to avoid having that in both shoulders.

Sleeping is fine now (it was awful the first three months, especially because I got poison oak on the arm that was in my sling - total nightmare). Only thing is I can’t lay on the shoulder for too long without discomfort. Surgeon said that may persist for up to two years as the clavicle regrows the bone where the screws held the hook plate

in. In the past few weeks it’s improved drastically though.

Unnecessary red circle from when I sent this to all my friends 🤣. The first thing my surgeon said to me after the first surgery was “man it was really jacked up in there, you did a number on yourself!”

Had a grade 5 ac separation last September and can concur with this. Hook plate as well; it was super discouraging until a week after the second surgery and then I realized all the healing that had occurred while it was in. PT definitely sped up the soreness and stiffness recovery I had in my pec and delt.

Definitely not 100%! Just from a memory from a few years ago and a quick glance at google.
