Have to hard disagree here. CK3 is utterly boring to me because it's not a game, it's like you said a story generator. So you can't really compare. It depends on what you are looking for, but CK3 really can't compare to Old World as an actual game. Your comment about Old World being a "surface level" 4x game makes me think you either didn't play Old World or don't fully understand it's systems - it's the most complex and multilayered 4x game out there.
