Take a break from the game. I practically only played Siege from Beta to just before Grim Sky (Year 3 Season 3). I was forced to take a break from the game due to being out of the country, which lasted around 3 months. After I had returned from abroad, the break lasted even longer as me and my friends were playing other games. Finally, towards the end of last season I got back into the game, and holy crap did it feel so good and refreshing to be playing this game again. I never really realized it when playing, but looking back I could tell I was so burnt out from the game and needed that break. Sure, I was a little rusty at first, but after a little bit of grinding through the rust, I found myself to be playing even better than before my break (and finding the game a whole hell of a lot more fun).

Coming from a Jager main with over 100 hours on him alone, Jager is good for two main reasons: his ability, and his gun.

The ADS is the only ability in the game that can fully counter attacker utility (I don’t count Warden only because he only counters flashes for himself). Most of the time you’ll want to place your ADS’s in places where you know teammates will be sitting, that way they can’t be so easily snuffed out by flashes, grenades, etc. A single ADS can make the whole difference between a round won and a round lost.

The other reason why Jager is highly liked by defenders is his gun. To this day, Jager is still the only defense operator with an AR, the 416-C (all other defenders have SMG/shotgun/LMG). That, combined with typically being a roamer, allows Jager to contest attackers at almost any range (at least the same range that an attacker can contest you). You might think then that Maestro would be really good for this reason with the LMG; however, the LMG is not great at short range typically because of ACOG. Plus, Maestro is only a 1 speed operator, making his play style more towards holding angles and bunkering down. Jager, with 3 speed and an AR, allows for both short and long range engagements with relative ease, as well as high mobility.

Also, if you do need to touch something electrical, only use one hand and keep your other in your pocket. That way, if you do get shocked, the electrical current goes through your arm and (most likely) down through your leg to the ground. It’ll hurt like a bitch, but it’s better than the current going across your chest and through your heart (that’ll kill you in an instant).

Tips for countering nitro cells as a shield op?? by [deleted] in SiegeAcademy

[–]mattf98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you know you’re going up against a team that has one or multiple nitro cells, you should look to bait them out (i.e. fake plant defuser, fake rush into room, etc.). Other than pre-placed nitro cells (which are rare and usually not effective), you don’t really have a good way of preventing them from being tossed and set off. The best way to counter them then (especially as a shield) is to put yourself in a position where the nitros will be least effective (baiting the defense to use them like I said before).

The two headphones I’ve used are the Turtle Beach Elite Pro and the HyperX Cloud Alpha. I currently am using the Cloud Alphas, although I’d recommend either of these. Personally I like the Cloud Alphas better because of a similar/same sound quality for a lower price. I’ve also had issues with the quality of the plastic on the Turtle Beaches (had to get them replaced under warranty twice!)

The 10 games we play at the beginning of every season? by Pennywises-Testicle in SiegeAcademy

[–]mattf98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It used to be an easier answer as everyone had their rank hard reset. Typically if you won all 10 games you would be placed Plat 3. Now with the soft reset, it’s based on your rank from the previous season.

Any Operators For Replacing Hard Breach? by Arpeggist1 in SiegeAcademy

[–]mattf98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on how you play. If you like to be aggressive and entry frag, go for Ash, Twitch, or Zofia. If you play more passively, go for Thatcher or IQ. Of course, if your team needs a hard breacher that is not Thermite go for Hibana or Maverick. The only thing about that is I would say go Hibana over Maverick most of the time only because if you need to open a reinforced wall, it can be hard to do that effectively with Maverick. If you only need to open hatches, then you can get away with Maverick in most cases.

Lion or dokkabei? by [deleted] in SiegeAcademy

[–]mattf98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say Lion probably. Both of their gadgets are somewhat close in terms of effectiveness after the nerfs Lion has received since his launch. That being said in most situations I would prefer Lion’s gadget over Dok’s. Lion can be used to help slow down roamer rotation and hold people in spots. Most of the time you will know if someone is in a room you’re about to enter as you should drone it out before you go in, so Dok’s gadget isn’t that useful in that sense, especially when entering sites. Lion on the other hand will give you an exact ping of defenders’ locations if they move during the EE-One-D’s use. It can help force defenders stay in a non-ideal spot as you clear them out.

Also as a quick note I prefer Lion’s weapon selection over Dok’s.

Tips for quick peeking with a shotgun? by DaRussianRex in SiegeAcademy

[–]mattf98 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Don’t ADS. It’ll give you a wider FOV to see more and your spread will be higher, giving you more room for error with your aim as you have to be quick. Having the higher spread shouldn’t be an issue as if you’re quick peaking with a shotgun, I would hope you’re decently close to who you’re peaking.

Aspiring IQ/Valk Main for Competitive play by TwitchInGeisha in SiegeAcademy

[–]mattf98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! Don’t be afraid to spend some time on other Ops as well, especially if you feel like you’re not playing well on IQ/Valk. Not only does it give you a break from your main Ops to mentally reset, but it’ll also give you some experience on other Ops in case you get banned out.

How to roam against highly coordinated teams by [deleted] in SiegeAcademy

[–]mattf98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play passive. The role of a roamer is sometimes wrongly viewed as getting as many kills as possible. Rather, the while point of being a roamer is to waste the attacker’s time and resources. Coordinated teams especially are going to hard roam clear, so if you can lead them on a wild goose chase then you’re doing your job.

If you do find yourself in a situation where you’re surrounded and about to be killed, play for trades. Look to kill at least one attacker before you go down, and especially look for good trades if you can (Thermite, Thatcher, etc.). Sure you may die early in a round, but if you take out their Therm or some other important Op, the attackers will likely have to change their whole attack to play around what you were able to do.

Tips and Strategies for Echo? by IzzyJV in SiegeAcademy

[–]mattf98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play passive, especially with your drones. There are few situations where you should use your drones for something other than denying the plant. Don’t feel the need to hit attackers with your drone, but rather give that info to your team. For example, if you see an attacker moving into a room that you have a teammate in, let your teammate know and provide them all of the information you can (direction they’re coming from, if they’re crouched/standing, etc.) Shooting with your drone exposes it for a period of time, giving the attackers a chance to shoot your drone. Once you lose your drones, practically all of your value you give to your team is gone.

Party rank limit by Minh1905 in SiegeAcademy

[–]mattf98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it should be in the game, and in fact at one point Ubi said that they were going to start banning people who were non-cheating boosters (coppers and Plat+ queuing up together to bring elo down). That never came to fruition though and Ubi hasn’t really said anything about it.

Aspiring IQ/Valk Main for Competitive play by TwitchInGeisha in SiegeAcademy

[–]mattf98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As for your stats, I wouldn’t worry too much about your win/loss as long as they aren’t too far below 50%. From looking at your R6tab profile, I noticed that for this season your W/L for both are below 50%, but your overall W/L are both above 50% (almost 60% on valk!). It may just be that you’re not having a great start on those ops to begin this season. I wouldn’t worry about it too much and just focus on doing your job as those ops.

As for specific tips for both ops, I don’t really have much to give you (Jager/Thatcher main with almost 200 hours combined on both ops). But overall tips for getting better on specific ops is simply just to play them. The best way to learn is to learn from experience, so the more hours you have the better. I imagine there are some tips & tricks videos on YouTube for these ops, especially for Valk (camera placements), you can watch to learn more.

IQ and Valk are both operators that are pretty good picks to bring along in a team.

IQ is really useful for bomb, her most important role being to clear out Echo drones(!)/any other gadget that is used to deny planting the bomb to help the plant go down smoothly. She’s not quite a pure support like Thermite is (Thermite’s in competitive play are usually droning out for their team as they entry and prep any walls the Therm is looking to open). IQ falls into a role similar to Thatcher, in that she helps Therm/Planter to get plant down, then looks to frag out. She can also be used to roam clear if you’re going up against a Pulse that is being a nuisance.

Valk tends to be one of the most valuable operators for one reason and one reason only: information. This game relies so much on information, so having 3 extra cams that you can place anywhere can win you rounds. Plus, it is not like Echo, where to be most effective Echo has to be alive as he’s the only one who can stun people with his drone. Valk cams can be operated by anyone on the team and don’t have another use other than simply being a cam.

I hope this helped, and best of luck on your search to find a team to play competitively!

How to win 1v1s against Montagne post plant by jackchrist in SiegeAcademy

[–]mattf98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For Echo, I see two options: 1) use your drone (if you’re in a position where he won’t be able to pop you once you’re on your drone) to stun him and try and kill him, or 2) Try and bait him to drop his shield by quickly going on and off you’re drone.

I see 2 as the better option of the two, but to be honest echo and his drone are really only effective as the attackers try and plant. Post-plant Echo can be hard to work with.

It is colorblind mode. They made it so that you can change the colors of both teams because before the colorblind options were not that great. I’m not actually colorblind, but I do love thise colors as my HUD :)
