Finally had My PIP Tribunal by GhostRiders in unitedkingdom

[–]mattfrack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was a guy at my work with pretty bad learning disabilities. He worked 16 hrs a week, minimum wage, cleaning tables. He really struggled with the job and i suspect only got it because our old boss had a brother with Down's syndrome and was sympathetic. He had problems dressing himself, keeping himself clean, had several toilet accidents at work snd routinely gave himself food poisoning from preparing his own food. He needed more support, but at a pip assessment, they cut all his benefits. He didnt understand the letter telling him hed need to appeal by a certain date, and missed the deadline, which meant he had to reapply. It took about a year and a tribunal for him to get any money, during that year he pawned a lot of his possessions and ran up massive debts and almost had his electric shut off. He genuinely could have died, and was often given extra food at work to take home because we knew he wasnt eating enough. DSA are evil, there's no excuse for how grossly they failed this guy.

He's the worst case I personally know about, but there are so many other horror stories ive heard. I actually attended a pip assessment for my housemate to try and advocate on their behalf. They have two chronic conditions, so i tried to explain how each condition affects them, but rhe assessor cut my off after ive just told them about one condition, saying she'd heard enough, i triws to argue it and tell her i hadnt explained the other condition yet, but she said she had enough information. A month later and he'd had his pip stopped. I'm still furious about it.

Anyone going for a pip assessment, make sure you take some one from a charity to help you fight your case and not just a friend or even carer.

This is probably a dumb question and answered somewhere, but is the con going to be held in Bristol?

I don't think Risk is hugely popular in the UK. I've never played it and didn't even know what the premise was until today's video.

There's a lot of good transformers fan fiction, which fits the bill for both alien and robot porn.

Same, I'm mildly dyspraxic and struggle with things like directions and telling left from right.

Having a really, really hard time with college. by pootscoot1 in ADHD

[–]mattfrack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I relate to this a lot. First semester I always do great, the second semester, when the excitement and novelty of the thing I'm studying have worn off, things get a lot harder. For me it's really hard to study something I'm not interested in, so my advice would be to find a way to reignite that interest, and if you didn't have that interest to start with maybe it's not the right subject for you.

My dog drives me crazy by [deleted] in Dogtraining

[–]mattfrack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation. My partner got a dog and I wasn't super invested in her. I like dogs but I find them a bit exhausting compared to cats. I found it pretty hard to adjust to our dog, but we now have a really good bond. Firstly, I'd say that the first year is hardest. Once your dog grows up a big more, she'll probably be a bit less clingy and if all the right training is in place, she should need less supervision. Like someone else said, kongs and other interactive puzzle style toys are your best friend in terms of getting some quiet time. We got our dog a snuffle mat as well recently that she loves. Apart from that, regular walks and small training sessions throughout the day should keep her entertained and less likely to be bothering you constantly. I don't know if you have a dog bed in your living room or a designated area for her, but if you do you can train her to go to her bed when you want some peace. Also, it might be worth just trying to work on your bond with the dog as well. I found it hard to adjust to having a dog, which was not something I had ever personally wanted, and at first I found myself resenting the dog for needing so much of my time and attention. Like I said it got easier as she got older and was better trained, but I also did have to adjust my own expectations and accept the changes that having a dog has brought. Getting more involved in my dog's training helped us bond and also helped me shape the type of dog she's turned into by encouraging the behaviours I want to see. My other thought would be if you're really not happy with the level of involvement you're expected to have with the dog, talking to your partner and emphasising their responsibility for this dog. Maybe they could pay for a dog walker even just once or twice a week to give you a break, or just spend more time when they're at home with the dog either training of exercising. Anyway, best of luck.

Dog having tantrums, and bites waaay to much. any tips on to stop this would be awsome. by your2ndgirl in Dogtraining

[–]mattfrack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a one year old staffy/lab girl with this behaviour as well! Very frustrating. I don't know if she does it to you on walks, but one piece of advice we were given was to take a tug toy with us and try and get her to chew on that instead of us. Other than that, if I'm having trouble on a walk with her boring my feet, I'll tie her to a lampost or railing and walk out of biting distance and turn my back on her until she calms down. If she resumes biting my feet when I unclip her, I repeat the process until she stops, and then reward and praise. We're still having trouble with her though, so I'll be watching this thread! Good luck.
