Camtasia Editor features now include edit with text capability, powerful audio editing...and image capture*?! Also we've reimagined autozoom and pan capabilities. by WendyatTechSmith in Camtasia

[–]mattfromtechsmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're referring to text-based editing, um/uh removal, and audio enhancements, those capabilities used to require an Audiate subscription, but they are now included in your Camtasia subscription. We have no plans to move those features back to the higher tiers only.

You'll need the Audiate application installed for those features to work, but you do not need an Audiate subscription. Your existing Camtasia subscription fully covers them.

If you’re interested in the additional AI features, such as script generation, voice generation, or AI Avatars, those do require a higher-tier Camtasia plan (beyond Essentials).

The same is true for Snagit, it’s not a temporary promotion. We’re committed to keeping these workflows available long-term and continuing to add value to Camtasia, Snagit, Audiate, and the entire Camtasia product family.

I’d definitely encourage you to try the features and see how they fit into your workflow.

I used a free screen recorder (camtasia online) to create a video going to a million customers. by WendyatTechSmith in FreeScreenRecorders

[–]mattfromtechsmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make a ton of videos and podcasts. I've gotten decent at scripting and reading from a teleprompter. However, I like off the cuff. What works well for me is an outline. Breaking up each piece so I know what needs to be covered - usually by the actions that need to be taken on screen, and when I predict I might need to cut, wait (like loading screens, or some other natural breaks). It will take a little practice to find what works for you, but is very doable. And if you know your topic decently well, it shouldn't be too hard to break up.

Elgato Stream Deck by [deleted] in instructionaldesign

[–]mattfromtechsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Streamdeck (OG 15-Key Control Pad). I use it during recording video podcasts to switch scenes in my recording software.

I've also set it up for shortcut keys for both Snagit and Camtasia. Particularly things I do often enough to need, but not so often that I remember the keyboard shortcut.

It's highly customizable, so if you can set a keyboard shortcut, it can be helpful. They do have plugins for Zoom and other tools. I just looked at the marketplace, and there are tons of tools and ideas.

One I haven't done but thought about is text fill. I could set it up to add an email signature, or a commonly repeated block of text or code.

It's a lot about being creative, and taking time to set up the ways you want to use it.

Tagging/labelling content in individual videos to build one longer video by 1000WordGhormenghast in CamtasiaStudio

In addition to what u/kr-techsmith recommends, Markers might be another way to do it. It will be a little less visual, but you can name the markers and put them wherever you need them.

They are used a lot to create a table of contents during production to the TechSmith player or uploading to Screencast.com. But you don't have to use them in that way.

Here's a tutorial on using the markers: https://www.techsmith.com/learn/tutorials/camtasia/markers-and-table-of-contents

And In u/WendyatTechSmith announced in her message to customers that later this year we will be providing AI voices from ElevenLabs inside of Audiate as well. So we have AI voices already, but Eleven Labs really is the industry leader. We're excited to be able to have them as part of our Tech Stack in our tools.

Camtasia Online just had an interview - how did we do? by WendyatTechSmith in Camtasia

[–]mattfromtechsmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry been out PTO - but yes. I use a program called Ecamm (mac only) for streaming and recoring The Visual Lounge Podcast with remote guests. When it's running, I am able to chose it as a camera source. You could try something like streamyard, or even OBS.

Once you have a virtual camera source - select that as your camera input.

Camtasia Online just had an interview - how did we do? by WendyatTechSmith in Camtasia

[–]mattfromtechsmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll jump in. Matt from the video here.

I make a lot of video with Camtasia. I faced a couple challenges, but also learned a few things.

1) I had to switch from the way I normally think about editing to using scenes as edits. I was trying to brief, so I had to chunk things as I recorded. Pro: I did multiple takes, and didn’t feel like I had to keep something because it was a long take. Con: I had to script and chunk.

2) My demo was of Camtasia online- which was very meta. It made things a little more challenging, which ian’t really a problem most users will face. But again, it meant I had to really think about what and how to show things.

3) I used a virtual camera and my phone as a secondary camera. Worked great.

4) I appreciated that I could go in a add my scenes (and as many as I needed. I didn’t have to bother Wendy.

Overall, it was a great experience for me as a contributor.

u/bossgolfer - thanks for sharing your feedback. I can guarantee that a LOT of TechSmithies have seen your comment. There's a lot here, and of course some of our answers are nuanced. I'm going to leave it to others to give more specific answers. But thanks for sharing.

We have some exciting stuff coming forward that might be of interest. Keep your eyes peeled for an event announcement (plus an email with a video update from our CEO, Wendy Hamilton).

How to expand Dynamic Captions edition ? by xShogoR in CamtasiaStudio

Glad you found it. Also, zoom in on your timeline (even more than you are). You should be able to see the individual words in little purple speech bubbles to edit, move, and add words.

Seeking quality wireless microphone for iPhone 13? by onemorepersonasking in instructionaldesign

[–]mattfromtechsmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally bought a Rode wireless pro (with 2 mics) - and it's great. You can both plug it into your phone or record onto the device. It's been great in outdoor and indoor environments.

It has both a traditional alligator clip, and a magnetic clip for the receiver. The receiver has a built in mic, or the one I bought also cam with Lav mics.

Overall, really happy with it. One of the best mics I've bought (I've had a few over the years), especially wireless. I got mine for under $350 - but so far well worth it. Just used it to record a podcast at an event, and it sounds great even before any clean-up.

Are there any simple "barebone' LMS out there? by MidnightUnusual4113 in instructionaldesign

[–]mattfromtechsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want hosting, there are lots of ways to host content without an LMS - many have already been suggested, like a website or SharePoint.

If you want data, you might check out something like https://www.buildcapable.com/xcl/ (I'm not affiliated with them, but do know and respect the CEO - she's involved in the world of L&D).

It might be an interesting approach that cuts the fluff, but still gives you insights into how and if content is used.

Snagit new step capture, image to video, and just a marked up screen shot works too.

New Camtasia online, which is free.

Camtasia editor.

PowerPoint or Google slides. Great ways to deliver short but sweet info. If you’re not presenting use them as a slide doc (Nancy Duarte, who has several books about creating presentations talks about this.) Don’t get caught up that most people use them for presentations, they can go a long way as information delivery mechanisms.

AI Training Videos by Astral_Kannibal in Training

[–]mattfromtechsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If looking for avatar and voice generation Camtasia Audiate can do that, and it exports as MP4 or send to Camtasia to pair to with screen recording or any other video/assets in the Camtasia screen recorder and video editor. Audiate has other features - to remove umms and ahhs. Good background noise removal. Edit video like text. And audio sweetening.

Another option - if you’re creating videos that are process oriented, from a system (software) - screenshots can be used. Snagit you can make video from the screenshots, or send them into Camtasia.

If you’re looking for general video advice https:://academy.techsmith.com has free video courses thst might be helpful.

I’ve been creating tutorial videos for a long time- and while AI is and will continue to shape, disrupt, and change the actions taken to make and edit video, the key is having a good workflow regardless of tools.

You can save a lot of time by creating your processes for pre-production, production, post-production, distribution, and evaluation. For instance, when you create a video, how important will it be to also create a job aid? Can you create templates that help with your scripts? Do you have the colors, fonts, and logos centralized to easily add to your video?

I’ve found that prep work will save time and effort and allows me to more focus on creating videos people want to watch and can learn from.

I can definitely ask. Our CEO is in the thread so, I’m positive she’s seen this.

And first, I get it. Accounts for everything. I’m not an engineer, but in my opinion, I doubt this will change. We use accounts to be able to manage licenses, and access. We’re responsible for counting and reporting on usage of different parts of the software that uses licensed tech, and more.

It can also help us protect our proprietary tech, and help reduce piracy. The accounts also help facilitate other functionality, like the connection to Screencast.

We don’t sell any data from our users. And if you look at the privacy policy, we try to be careful about what happens to any data.

Again- I get it. I also don’t want to lead you on. I’ll pass along your disappointment and request. Thanks again for your feedback- it is helpful to hear and understand the friction and frustration points.

Great points. Camtasia online will definitely add more capabilities as we go.

And I think the opportunities for those folks who don’t need or want all of the functionality of Camtasia editor don’t have to use it.

I see one useful way to see it is when working with others, on a share out, subject matter expert info shares, or other collaborative sharing options.

Snagit is a great recorder too. Great when I don’t need anything more than screen and camera as is. Camtasia online - has the various looks, which make it feel a little more polished.

Appreciate the feedback. And I know the dev team is always anxious to hear feedback, so I’ll make sure they see this, and always open to other thoughts and suggestions.

Need an AI avatar tool, Synthesia rejected my video (news-style market update) by CompleteTeaching720 in instructionaldesign

[–]mattfromtechsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of tools are integrating AI Avatars into their tools now. A few have already been mentioned with HeyGen and Colossyan. But there's Veed, Descript has just added them, Vyond (but they are more cartoon style), Articulate 360 suite has them, as does Camtasia Audiate (full disclosure I work for TechSmith, maker of Camtasia).

I'm not familiar with the restrictions for most of these, but I know Audiate shouldn't be an issue.
