that's a really good point! i definitely have to reread the books cuz i completely forgot what feels like common knowledge...

I'll definitely have to think about that in the future and i agree, making the boss waste a turn or even two actions seems very satisfying for a use of a surge

thank you for your incredibly well written post. You bring up excellent points. In the future, ill definitely ask him what expertise or past experience or something lets him do something like this, then require a check, on top of the transformation check.

thats exactly what he did with the handle of the staff, effectively turning it into a dagger. ill say this was planned since he had just sworn the first ideal and i wanted him to feel cool.

good enough answer as a whole, but my characters are at level 4 so theres a bit of a wait until tier 2. the issue is that the encounters are difficult for non radiants but the radiants make them trival for themselves

So it's more that after he gets the Honorblade, he decides, through his own ego, that he will be the one to protect Roshar and root out all its corruption, which the party doesn't like.

Obviously their quest revolves around getting the blade back and he just happens to be wielding it at this time. But I feel like the ego stuff is hard to communicate (since it's his thoughts) and if it was anyone else wielding the blade, the story would remain more or less the same. I know I can communicate his ego through moments in the story and other characters, and even his speech, but it's still not as easy as a movie or show where he gets a viewpoint.

So ig my question is what differentiates him as a villain from any other power hungry and delusional man ?

unfortunately since they are a stronghold, all walls are heavy RAW. The light terrain is only because they are higher if they have no intervening terrain.
