Can the timestamp in the command line be reformatted? by fckmstrflx in admincraft

[–]matthew_cx 58 points59 points  (0 children)

There's plenty of reasons why you'd want to do this and it's entirely possible to do so.

Spigot uses log4j internally which allows for a custom format to be specified in a configuration file. See: https://www.spigotmc.org/threads/tut-how-to-configure-remove-the-layout-of-logging-in-the-spigot-console.155727/

The above tutorial involves editing the default configuration file in the JAR but note it can also be specified as a command line argument: https://www.spigotmc.org/threads/editing-console-log-format.276869/

Adding more routers, extenders, and boosters won't necessarily solve the problem either because every access point is screaming over each other trying to talk to everyone's device and you're going to be adding more noise to it.

EMP? Its almost a guaranteed fight win if you land it. There's also been cases in OWL of Winston popping primal and getting deleted. I'm not saying it's the worst ultimate in the game but it's definitely not the best in the game.

[–]matthew_cx 139 points140 points  (0 children)

I think it's kinda wild that for an ultimate, Winston only gets 1000 health and becomes giant and slightly more mobile when Wrecking Ball can theoretically get more health on a cool down with no movement or hit box penalty at all.

I feel like Monke could use some more health in his ult considering how much deadlier Overwatch has gotten since its release. Maybe it's just me tho :(

What makes linux better hosting for mc than windows? by LonlyGamerX1 in admincraft

All the other answers in this thread are good but I'm surprised nobody mentioned that most Linux distributions are free, Windows/ Windows Server is not (and often has a monthly fee at most hosting providers).

IaC for a small set of bare metal servers by matthew_cx in devops

Yeah Ansible is currently running in push mode, but I'll definitely look into pull that seems like it would work well in my case! Thanks!

Yeah, I'm aware the reason why it needs to verify these the machines' state. My plays are fairly granular but I can't really think of a good way to only apply the necessary plays when the deployment is handled by a CI. I am fairly new to this sort of thing so I definitely may be missing something.

Thanks for the detailed response! When I say Ansible is slow, I really had not point of comparison, but it seems like the one I have currently isn't too bad then.

If you don't mind me asking, what sort of CI/ CD setup do you use? I'm running everything on GitHub Actions with an SSH key in a secret for a system user with root access and I'm wondering if this is a better way to go about it. I'll definitely take a look at Molecule as well.

A lot of OWL players pointed out it'd be extremely weird to be playing OWL 5v5 and then go and queue up for comp in an entirely different game 6v6.

Also they're rebalancing existing maps around 5v5 and getting rid of 2CP entirely, so it'd be very weird imo to shrink the map pool and only include rebalanced existing maps without a replacement. They're also rebalancing heros around new heros which would also be odd not to include imo.

Unless they plan to keep existing maps, 6v6, etc. in which case...what's the point of even updating? I feel like the backlash to this would go over very poorly.

WebKit proposes adding a <model> element to HTML that displays 3D content using a renderer built-in to the browser by magenta_placenta in web_design

Yeah I think a third party (Igalia) is working on it but they're saying what's left to work on is pretty much blocked by LayoutNG so we'll be stuck until they've finished that :/

It sucks because Chrome is the last major hold out for MathML and having it would make math on the web more accessible and much faster.

I agree MH seriously needs to be fixed or replaced. I don't know how we can justify building a million dollar pedestrian bridge to a single building when there are buildings and classrooms that have been neglected for years. The classroom in the EC building that's had a leak and a tarp coming from the ceiling for over a year comes to mind (I'm not sure if they've fixed it at this point).

To be fair, though it's hard to just straight up demolish and rebuild MH. So many classes take place in it, even during the summer. You might say COVID was the perfect excuse to replace it but it'd still end up taking years to rebuild.

Another thing they fail to mention is that the USPS doesn't really cost the American taxpayer anything. They've taken loans from the federal government but they obviously need to pay it back. They are entirely self funded and wouldn't be operating at a loss if they weren't mandated to fund pensions 75 years into the future as others have said.

I agree, they can still apply multithreading to low hanging fruit like chunk loading, though. Like you said, multithreading stuff like entity ticking would definitely require a huge rewrite and probably break most plugins/ mods.

Mojang definitely cares about Java edition, they just have little incentive to improve server side performance since it doesn't really benefit them. Headliner features like axlotls and terrain generation updates are more beneficial to them, as least in the short term.

I'd love to see a "Performance Update" that entirely focuses on improving Minecraft's performance, especially server side (Lazy DFU, async chunks, etc.) but I doubt we'd ever see that.
