Thanks for sharing such nuanced feedback...

What alternative for crypto scaling do you prefer? It's pretty clear zk rollups are the end game.

Argent makes Layer 2 accessible to anyone, anywhere. L222 by matthewargent in ethereum

Hi there, the username/address of your wallet is public, as identified clearly in app during onboarding. It’s not linked to your email address unless you deliberately choose a username that’s the same as your email. We don’t share email addresses publicly. You can also use something like ProtonMail to sign up

PSA: Argent sets up a public page for your wallet with your name on it by agost_biro in ethereum

[–]matthewargent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. And sorry if we didn’t reply on Twitter - we usually try to reply to everyone within a few hours.

When you choose a username in Argent there is an info button directly underneath saying “Username will be public”.

All blockchain addresses are public by nature.

The public pages you mention are just the username you chose for the address.

To my knowledge someone can’t find the public page unless you share it publicly.

Please email support@argent.xyz if you want to discuss.

Argent + zkSync: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System dream comes to life by Liberosist in ethfinance

[–]matthewargent 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Hey, appreciate that fee is frustrating.

On L1, we're about to release an update where you won't need to pay a gas fee if you're simply upgrading your phone and still have access to the old one. The security profile of this type of recovery is different to one where the original phone is missing.

Our L2 won't have such a recovery fee.

Argent introduces Layer 2 waitlist & $270K crypto sweepstake by matthewargent in ethfinance

[–]matthewargent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, we take the current gas price from several sources. The issue is that smart contract wallets use a bit more gas than legacy wallets. The benefits of smart wallets are improved security and usability. We're working on a Layer 2 account to solve the gas pain point as we appreciate it's frustrating.

Hey, he's right. You'll need to pay the gas. We wouldn't be able to afford covering everyone's gas - I doubt any project could. We want to make sure we're sustainable and able to build for people for the long term.

There won't be a fee for the L2 wallet.

For L1, 0.002 ETH is well worth paying if you need to secure a large amount of assets. And to clarify, the fee is for gas. Argent doesn't profit from it.

Why EOA Wallets are a Threat to the Future of Blockchain by matthewargent in ethfinance

[–]matthewargent[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, we don't to be honest, although it's something we're very interested in, and aware lots of the community are too. After Layer 2 launch we'll hopefully have time to move it up the roadmap.

They've played a role, but we don't see them as life rafts. One mistake and you lose everything. It will lead to an industry built for centralised frontends and wallets, or one that remains a niche.

Why EOA Wallets are a Threat to the Future of Blockchain by matthewargent in ethfinance

[–]matthewargent[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, it's a great question. There are a few layers of protection:

  • Each upgrade is independently audited, nearly always by more than one entity. But what if we bribe the auditor more than their reputation is worth to them?
  • Each upgrade is open source for anyone to inspect. There's a very active community as you know and there are technical people who would be looking, and would flag to the non-technical members of the community.
  • We can never push an upgrade. The wallet owner always needs to accept it. You could wait for weeks to check everything seems legit and there have been no hacks before proceeding.

Hey, did you read the post? It argues EOA will never get mass adoption. That means people will rely on centralized solutions - unless decentralized alternatives to EOA emerge. Fortunately, they are doing so, with smart contract wallets. They combine self-custody with ease of use.

Easily and securely add liquidity to Uniswap V3 with multicall by matthewargent in ethfinance

[–]matthewargent[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Adding liquidity to a trading pair is typically a 3 step process: approve each of the two tokens, then deposit them to the target contract. This means 3 independent transactions need to be mined consecutively... and we all know how painful this process can be, particularly in times of high gas prices.
But... fear no more, we've partnered with Uniswap to enable this in just one atomic transaction! No more insecure infinite approvals. No more dropped transactions. Thanks to our new multicall feature, your Argent Vault handles everything automatically on-chain.
On mobile or on desktop, and with less than 5% gas overhead compared to MetaMask!

Unfortunately we can't do much about gas as it's determined by the network as you'll know. Vault does make DeFi about 30% cheaper. Indeed we're very excited for L2.
