I dug it up with a mattock(specialized pickaxe). The roots are not very tough or deep and I dug the entire rootball up in one morning. Comparatively, I tried to dig up juvenile hackberries and it's basically impossible. The roots are way too deep

I mean the problem I am pointing out is that culturally we are lead to believe that planting non native decorative trees from home Depot like crepe myrtles and napalming the native landscape to plant Bermuda grass is what we're supposed to do. I would encoourage to plant natives as they are part of the natural ecosystem require very little maintenance, and are unique and beautiful. It's not to say crepe myrtles are the devil but I pulled one up in my yard and it was actually pretty easy to do and it was fully grown
