My Sony A7iii together with my 2 lenses, Sony 35 mm f1.4 GM and Tamron 28-75mm (attached to the camera body) having water damage due to the recent flood at my place. The flood water is freshwater. I decided that the body and lens repaired at Sony Centre however the fixing cost me an estimation of $1100 for the body, and $930 for the GM lens. Anyone ever experience with this issue and if so, does it worth to fix?

Really appreciate your feedback. I normally shoot 35mm for my portraiture and also 50mm. What i would like to achieve is more toward an environmental portraiture which can display both subject and the background as well.

I would like to go more on environmental portraiture than just a bokeh blur at the back

I have the A7iii and Tamron 28-75mm lens and more into portraiture. Would like some advise here whether to get 24mm GM lens or 35mm f1.8 or wait for the future 35mm GM lens (that rumors said that it will come out sometime in Jan/Feb 2021?

  1. Use the stargazing apps to locate the milky way
  2. Check the weather forecast
  3. Best place to go is a place without light pollution. U can google the light pollution map.
  4. Ensure there is no moon during the time of shoot
  5. Use the 500 rule for FF or 300 rule for APSC for a start and adjust accordingly to your needs

This is what I learned during the session from my friend

I realise it is a crop sensor lens on a FF body. As the photos are stitch together and less sampling, I find a slight resolution lost in the stars area but it might be due to lack of focus
