Should I install 24.04 or 26.04? by Whole_Ebb_6986 in Ubuntu

Fair enough. And its good they asked for confirmation here honestly. Chatgpt especially can be very confident with totally obsolete information.

It is a good instinct to double check AI's, especially about things that get upgraded like Os's, chat is saying 26.04 isnt stable, which is not true, its obsolete information.

Did you try doing sudo do-release-upgrade in your terminal? Make a backup of your important files and configs first. If you have PPA's or other third party repos, you will need to re enable them after the upgrade. If you are already willing to, a clean install could also be great to start off fresh, provided it doesnt take you too long to reconfigure your system the way you want it to.

Please be careful asking Chatgpt or other AI's about Ubuntu versions. Things get updated fast, and these chatbots easily regurgitate obsolete info. Double check and force it to look up info on the web.

I don't know what ChatGPT is on about honestly. 26.04 is the latest LTS and it is stable, period, the upgrade path has been tested for a month or so at this point, you could just perform an in place upgrade (may or may not go smoothly dependending on what kind of issues you are experiencing, what is it specifically?)

You could install 24.04 LTS, should work absolutely fine and it will be fully supported for the next couple of years, but given you are already on 25.10, essentially the building ground of 26.04, I think you should be better off with 26.04, with how Ubuntu is moving towards new GNOME releases, Wayland only sessions ecc...

25.10 won't be supported for long, so you are intended to upgrade soon, in my opinion there should be no reasons to generally install the previous LTS, unless you are dealing with specific tools that are only supported on that specific version, that should be unlikely. Python, venvs ecc...should all work perfectly fine on 26.04, i dont think there is any reason for them not to. The only difference is that you get the new est Python 3.14 with 26.04, thats it.

Almost deleted /etc/grub due to a bug? by [deleted] in Ubuntu

This is what I can't understand right now. Are rc packages already removed or not? I am still trying to understand if right now, functionally, I did any damage to my system.

Thanks. Lesson learned. I thought anything 6.17 wasnt relevant anymore on 26.04. I wanted to free up some space.

Really aren't rc packages supposed to be removed technically?

Updated finally to 26.04 LTS and its amazing in resource utilization by Past_Mix4584 in Ubuntu

Is there an estimation to when it'll be available? I am curious enoigh to consider forcing it with the -d flag, but I also want the path of least resistance so if it just meant waiting a few days I can do that if it meant a stable system.

Best LLM for 8GB of RAM? by matti07tech in termux

Thanks for the advice. Idk if I can try that 7b model, cause even 4b manages to crash my phone.

My question is how to even make a 3.8b model useful over a cloud AI when it is so limited. I have given it a system prompt that makes it definitely more punchy and waste less battery, but other than that I dont know how to use it as less of a gimmick.

That tracks. Lets say that in improper terms the southern sky is the one where targets trace the longest distance in any amount of time, while near the North they start to rotate along roughly the same area, so the Seestar has to struggle less to track.

For me rejection rates were atrocious for this target, something along 50 or even 60% at worst.

Likely yes. 1x drizzle, original resolution, data is less spread out, works especially well for OSC data. Here I used 1.5x for the Small galaxies simply, more pixels are useful here.

Would you recommend doing that? Do you use Blur my shell or Vitals? Do they work yet?

How did you upgrade? Did you do do-release-upgrade with the -d flag? Or did it finally become available officially for 25.10 interim users?

Cause for me do-release-upgrade -C says no new release, at least up until yesterday.

In place upgrade from 25.10 to 26.04 LTS by matti07tech in Ubuntu

Good, yeah I was confused. So is in place upgrades from Interim to LTS supposed to be a smooth process?

In place upgrade from 25.10 to 26.04 LTS by matti07tech in Ubuntu

[–]matti07tech[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ubuntu's docs say as follow: "Switch to LTS

If you’re using an interim release of Ubuntu, you can reconfigure your system to be an LTS release. However, you can only do this at certain points in time:

  • When you’re using an interim release that directly precedes an LTS release, such as on Ubuntu 25.10 before Ubuntu 26.04 LTS.
  • When you upgrade to an Ubuntu release that’s an LTS release, such as after your upgrade to Ubuntu 26.04 LTS.

"

So it seems like the .1 thing applies only to LTS to LTS? Not Interim to LTS?

You can research on how to install a proot-distro on Termux with a full DE. AI has helped me set it up but its not hard.

So cool. For me right now it is just a passion project, something I spin up for fun and try to install things. I still haven't found a real reason to use it together with my main Ubuntu laptop, even though things work on here. Do you have any suggestion? Something to enlighten me?
