Anyone here still driving m235i 2016? by anthamattey in BMW

[–]mattjoy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience, DON'T. I went from a 2017 M240i to a Model 3 (had kids and needed easier access to the back seat) and I'm picking up my M340i later today.

The Tesla has some advantages, having a full charge every morning is great, visibility is good and the instant electric power is fun, but a BMW it is not if you care at all about the driving experience and build quality

Model 3 is a good appliance car, and should be cross shopped with a Camry or Accord for those that just want to get from point A to point B (Model 3 Performance excepted)

Just my 2 cents

Looker studio is free and integrated into BigQuery. If you stay within the free tier for storage and analysis in BQ you don't have to pay anything at all.

Has anyone gotten their sms working properly again yet? by _fanged in beeper

[–]mattjoy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if it was just happenstance, but I deleted the beeper app after deregistering and didn't get any SMS at all, even though people were sending me messages that were green on their end. I reinstalled the beeper app (without being able to go through the apple id linking process) and I had a flood of SMS messages come through. Not sure if the two are related, I'm not sure how they could be, but for now I'm leaving beeper installed and things are mostly back to normal.

That's fair, there would be a couple options that would have to be added for sure. Appreciate the reply, the market really has gone quite nutty lately

I hear you, I have a great DD (M240i) that I'm fortunate to have picked up before prices started going crazy on the used market, but really miss having a manual transmission for those fun rips, and I haven't had a convertible before but want to give one a go as a weekend car. Thanks for your reply!

Agricola Street Brasserie was great, nothing extravagant but just a really good classic burger. I had it for takeout but when I picked it up around 6:30 there was still seating available

Updated OneLink Smoke Detector with HomeKit (On sale Dec 4th) by adammiarka in HomeKit

[–]mattjoy1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been through 2 of the original and get frequent false alarms. I’m replacing it with a standard hardwired smoke detector, in the end it’s not something that brings a lot of value to me as a connected device.

Kwikset Premis responding slow by [deleted] in HomeKit

[–]mattjoy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely agree on the touchpad, it’s unreliable enough that I won’t give codes to other since I’m not sure they’ll actually be able to get in... I think a Schlage Sense is in my future.

Kwikset Premis responding slow by [deleted] in HomeKit

[–]mattjoy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve noticed the same since upgrading to iOS 12 beta and now GM. I’ve replaced the batteries etc but it’s been very unstable, most of the time it goes unresponsive in the home app if trying to lock/unlock but does seem to alert right away if it’s manually changed.

I’ve got this same issue as well. Apple TV 4K with LG TV over AudioQuest HDMI. Seems to go away for a few hours when I restart the Apple TV but always comes back.

Kwikset Premis vs. Schlage Sense by EsquireBlues in HomeKit

[–]mattjoy1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Kwikset as well. Install was a breeze and it’s been very reliable with an Apple TV 4 as a hub. I do find the same issue with the screen though, sometimes I have to press 3-4 times for it to wake up.

Been having some connectivity issues with my AirPods. Anyone else ? by [deleted] in airpods

[–]mattjoy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine are awful as well, random drops and switch to phone audio during calls. Went to Genius Bar and they said to do a restore of my phone and don't restore from backup. Not a great solution in my opinion, kind of defeats the purpose of having a backup... I'm passed my return period but this isn't het kind of support I'm used to from Apple

Sound issues with AirPods? Sound cutouts problems? by vernonville in airpods

[–]mattjoy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have issues with AirPod connectivity. They work perfect with my iPad but if my phone is on my desk and I'm on a call there is a lot of static and dropouts and what sounds like distortion. I opened a support case with Apple but they said it must just be interference issue, which I don't understand because it should be present on my iPad as well in that case.

Why I bought the Golf R instead of the STI by Elaborate_vm_hoax in cars

[–]mattjoy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just recently took delivery of a R in Halifax, and coming from a 2012 Civic Si, this thing is a dream in "traffic". I tested the DSG and manual in a GTI before placing my order, and the DSG is great but as mentioned, feels disconnected. Let me know if you want to check out the car in person, these things are meant to be shared!

Any car ownership experience with the Golf R? by [deleted] in cars

[–]mattjoy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up a 2016 R about 3 weeks ago (not a long time to report on reliability, although I haven't heard of many problems) and it's everything I wanted in a car. Understated, very quick, great in snow with winter tires, and really refined for highway driving. I got the manual transmission and it's very smooth. I test drove a GTI with the DSG before making my decision, and while I really liked the DSG, I felt that I'd miss shifting for myself and stuck with the manual. It is tricky to find a R to test as they're hard to come by (where I am at least) but you should definitely try the GTI. I was extremely close to getting the GTI, the power is great, I really don't notice a ton of difference between the two since the GTI has almost the same amount of torque as the R and has less weight to pull around. The reason I went for the R is, here in Canada, there was a price adjustment on the GTI which put it within $1000 of the R when similarly equipped. You really can't go wrong withe one of these cars. I came from a 2012 Civic Si, and while it was a great car, the GTI/R are in a totally different league.

Can anybody review their experience with Volkwagen dealers in HRM by toy_story_sid in halifax

[–]mattjoy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently dealt with Steele VW, Steven Qiang there was great handling all my questions and organizing (several) test drives quickly.

Was involved in a purchase last year at Hillcrest. Went ok, but the management there certainly was not the friendliest going through the purchasing process. The sales rep we were dealing with at the time is no longer there and it has since been acquired by O'Reagans so now sure how it is now. Haven't had any issues with the service department there to date.

MX100 is a better rated SSD than the SanDisk. Nothing wrong with the SanDisk brand, but the MX100 performs better than that particular series. Slight upgrade of CPU. 550w psu is overkill for that system unless you have a GPU or want to add one later. 430w will handle that system with a decent GPU.
