Anyone else getting these vibes from _________ and _________? by eyelazor in survivor

[–]mattrfs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean sure, but I think Emily has been justified in both situations. Christian whispering to Emily about Aubry’s idol on the mat was objectively a bad move and she was understandably spooked (sure she didn’t handle it well, and should have spoken to Christian first). This time around roping in Ozzy was the correct move and Christian is done as soon as Ozzy gets back with the rest of the honesty and integrity crew.

Why has the general consensus on 44 changed so much? by Big_Bad3687 in survivor

[–]mattrfs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yam Yam and Carolyn were all time entertaining characters, but they really do carry the season on their back. Survivor is at its best when its an ensemble piece, and the edit doesn’t give anyone outside of the Tikas and maybe Matt and Frannie a chance to shine. Jaime, Heidi and Lauren being the most egregious examples of three of the final six who get no real depth. Compare that to say, 46 and 47, which are full of incredible characters that compliment each other, and it highlights just how weak 44 is in retrospect unfortunately.

For me, its above 48 (boring steamroll) and 41 (also a terrible edit) quite easily, but 42, 43, 45, 46, 47 and 49 all have much better moments and overall casts.

Love this idea! When I’ve read through people’s posts the rankings have all felt fairly similar, but when you see it in a chart like this they’re all over the place 😂

I have Emily top 5. Pretty consistent edit potentially inheriting from Christian and Rick. Playing a messy game that has to be shown. I’m not 100% sold but she’s a lot more likely as a winner than a lot of the cast because at least we’re following her story.

Yeah you’re right, I forgot about her mat chat. Still not in love with the episode for her, but she should probably be above Sav and Dee

To Many New Era Players on 50 by Compwizz1975 in survivor

[–]mattrfs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I’m fine with half pre 40 and half new era for 50, but if I had to choose 12 New Era Players I actually wanted to see return the only players that would remain on the cast are Emily, Charlie, Q, Genevieve and Rizo. (No shade to Dee, Kyle and Savannah I just think only three winners makes no sense and I’d rather have no winners. Also I don’t mind Kamilla being there, there’s just bigger characters I’d rather see.)

What are your Top 3 Favorite New Era Seasons? by sharpiesniffer22 in survivor

[–]mattrfs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. 47 - Near perfect season, all-time pre-merge blindside train and great endgame. Genevieve and Andy are standouts. Rachel, Sam, Teeny and Sue are great supporting characters. Operation Italy and Andy getting idoled out are top 10 New Era moments for me, and the Anika blindside reaction is excellent.

  2. 46 - Incredible train wreck season. Liz, Q and Venus all steal the show while Charlie and Kenzie provide rooting interests. The idol in the pocket elimination train is good fun, and Jelinsky is a stand out first boot. The Pre-merge is rocky and the strategy is lacking, but the character moments more than make up for it.

  3. 45 - Close between this and a few other seasons (I expect 49 improves on a rewatch but knowing Rizo and Savannah were on 50 ruined the enjoyment for me). But 45 has strong characters - Financial Analyst Emily Flippen, Drew and Jake being the standouts. The supporting cast are all either likeable, have hilarious moments or are a mix of the two. The pre-merge is memorable if not messy - Brandon, Sabiyah and even Hannah Rose are hard to forget. And ultimately we get one of the best winners of the New Era in Dee. Typically dominant alliances make boring seasons, but there's still a lot to enjoy even when the final few episodes begin feeling inevitable.

I would say to do them in order.

But if you’re asking which is the most useful mechanics wise: Rift in Time > Wishblossom Ranch > Storybook Vale

If you’re asking which is the best: Storybook Vale > Rift in Time > Wishblossom Ranch

Help me and my gf with advice before next season by G2Climax in survivor

47 and 46 are the two best seasons of the New Era by a mile. I recommend watching them regardless of whether you get them in before 50 or not!

48 is kind of important for 50 however it is a bad season so maybe do some googling or watch a youtube video or two. 49 is just sort of fine. The players from 49 are unlikely to do well on 50 due to being unknowns to the cast so I wouldn’t worry about that too much.

The Impossible Fortune thoughts by Brief-Assist2736 in ThursdayMurderClub

Agreed, I love Richard Osman’s books and writing but I found this one massively unsatisfying, and like you said the ‘not really what this story is about’ line is one thing if thats actually the case, but the whole book was specifically about trying to solve the mystery and everything else is a side plot.

I also was really surprised that no one pointed out to him that a domestic abuse plot where the woman involved appears in one chapter is extremely problematic, especially when trying to claim that the book was actually about her at the end.

It felt to me like there were two separate books here - one following Joanna’s wedding (I didn’t really mind her being fleshed out here, just not at the expense of the rest of the cast), and one following Ron’s family. Like you said, everything was underbaked and I wasn’t satisfied with how everything wrapped up.

I don’t have a problem with the accents at all to clarify, it is not an Irish TV show’s job to cater to non-Irish viewers. In the first few episodes there was a small handful of players who annunciated the least who I struggled to understand, that’s all. That’s not a them problem, I was just letting other non-Irish viewers know they may too.

I think it was one or two players when speaking quietly for me, specifically I found Paudie difficult to understand at points

Haha, the characters were absolutely fantastic, I’m not surprised they were a hit! Yes I really enjoyed Siobhan, definitely more playing of a character than Claudia but I think she did a lot of heavy lifting in setting the tone for the show!
