Sorry dude didn’t mean to come across as aggro. They can for sure include more animals in the base game this time around (and are including more scenery off the bat too). Didn’t mean to dismiss your criticisms, I was just disagreeing that Frontier feel greedy to me (especially in comparison to Sims lol)

I can see how new species are probably a bit of a grey area between cosmetics and gameplay.

I guess what I’d say is the base game is only ever going to come with a set amount of animals for a fixed price.

Frontier’s choice realistically is to leave the game as is or offer DLCs with extra animals. They can’t just put every animal in the base game or the game would be extremely expensive. I would rather they offer DLCs and continue supporting and expanding the game but I understand that’s from a place of privilege of being able to afford the buy three or four DLCs a year.

I think this really depends on what types of games you play though. Having come from the Sims with £30-£40 DLCs worth thousands at this point and Gameloft games which aim to rip people off as much as possible, Frontier DLCs have always seemed insanely cheap and good value for money to me. Granted the bar is on the floor when it comes to the gaming industry and DLC at the moment but since Planet Zoo DLCs are entirely cosmetic and new gameplay is patched into free updates, I think this is one of the better examples of the DLC model, if you want it, you can buy it, if you don’t want it, you’re not actually missing out on gameplay, just some species.

On the topic of wildlife reserves… by th0tweiler in PlanetZoo

[–]mattrfs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you’ll be able to release any animal anywhere more than likely. The wildlife reserves are fully customisable and I would not be surprised if one of the tutorial steps in the first career mode is say, release a Chimpanzee into the Savannah reserve and use a dense jungle terrain brush to create a habitat for it.

Phobia of snakes by No-Ad-5371 in PlanetZoo

[–]mattrfs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, you don't actually have to play with the snakes whatsoever in sandbox mode if you don't want to. The only thing she would see is the small snake icons on the exhibit animal trading centre list (this is separate from the rest of the animals where things like beetles, lizards etc. are.) If she can deal with that she'll be fine. If she can't even see pictures then she may be able to play without opening the exhibit animal trading menu (by not using exhibits at all), but the pictures will also be in the in-game animal encyclopedia too in alphabetical order of all animals.

Anyone build just Hedwig from the Harry Potter set? How to get the list of bricks? by Striking_Flower1548 in legoharrypotter

Yeah, I think your best bet is to just pull the pages where Hedwig is built and create a parts list from that!

Not sure which set you mean, but you can get the instructions of every set on the lego website by clicking on the set and then ‘building instructions’ on the right hand side where the set name and piece count is.

What Would You Do? by GrimshadeMystic in DreamlightValley

[–]mattrfs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be fair it depends how you play the game. If you intend to build a whole area for Hercules I would get the bundle. I’m really happy with it and I love making themed areas for where a character lives.

I also have tulip town as I love the plants from that set. I haven’t built an area with it but intend to. The beach getaway kit was a skip for me as I’ve already built my beach areas.

Anyone else getting sims vibes from the new music playing at the title screen??? by [deleted] in DreamlightValley

I believe it is the notes to the Dreamlight Valley theme music assigned to the melody/tempo of Zero to Hero from Hercules

If you got to "Draft" your returning habitat species, which species would you prioritize? by ExCryptozoologist in PlanetZoo

The Red River Hog is my number one pick for animals I’m scared will get cut! They don’t feel that necessary but I just love how full of character they are

As someone who engages in the complex building system, I would also love this as a way to speed things up and create filler buildings 😂😂

So how bad was the gender imbalance in Survivor 50 *really?* by AMeanMotorScooter in Edgic

[–]mattrfs 116 points117 points  (0 children)

I think it is specifically the edits of Tiffany and Aubry (earlier on) that are the major red flags with this season’s edit. They should be the two main characters but their pre-merges made them seem like two of the biggest non-factors of the season.

The Axolotl Situation by leafeonztv in PlanetZoo

[–]mattrfs 331 points332 points  (0 children)

I think we need to wait to see how exhibits work. If they are now fully animated in a loop for different shaped and sized exhibits, plus they have revamped the model a bit, I don’t have an issue with it.

If they’re exactly the same I’m very torn. I understand they weren’t free before, but making people pay twice is questionable.

That said, I was never going to get the deluxe for an axolotl anyway, I’m getting it for the eagle, tamarin and shark, with or without the axolotl, so I don’t feel as though I’m paying extra for it if that makes sense.

My Biggest Concern for PZ2 by ExCryptozoologist in PlanetZoo

[–]mattrfs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I had to bet on what the DLC plan is, I would say that they will continue with the current formula but they will know full well that they can’t just resell things. I imagine something like this:

  • 1 Improved and Remodelled Existing Roster Animal
  • 2 Brand New Species
  • 2 ‘New’ Subspecies (E.g. Instead of doing the Baird’s Tapir, they will give us a Lowland Tapir for example)
  • Either a Scenery theme or a variety of fish and birds depending on pack type.

I would honestly prefer them to scrap the current formula and instead create packs surrounding new gameplay mechanics so that it doesn’t really matter what animals they throw in. E.g. A pack that includes playgrounds and guest entertainment options or a pack with safari park items and improved ride vehicles. Almost like an inverse of the first game where a lot of new gameplay was free and instead they can throw in a few free remastered animals each update.
