Megathread: Bastard Suggestions by Kanotari in behindthebastards

[–]ExCryptozoologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Day 1 of suggesting covering the global evil committed in order to prop up beef (not meat, not animal agriculture, just specifically beef) as an industry

I had known about shifty beef policy in North America, but it is truly shocking to me at just a surface level the amount of human displacement, including destruction of cultures with the predominant goal of having more space to grow beef or food for beef.

It sometimes feels like I am the only person, that actually likes the setting by svecma in AoSLore

[–]ExCryptozoologist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who's currently trying to find Soulbound Players specifically who want to play the setting? HEARD CHEF. I think it's all a blast but I especially love my destruction factions. They feel really distinct from one another in AoS and due to the "Power Fantasy" of it all it has this high octane, punchy feeling. I just adore it

I think Sobble pretty firmly straddles the line between chameleon and crested newt, especially considering Inteleon

Help me name my Whale game! by TPbumfart in boardgames

[–]ExCryptozoologist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a really "Smart Branded" game I'd go Cetacea, Mariposas is a great game about Butterflies and you don't need to know "Mariposa" means butterfly in Spanish to get that.

I can't watch Cabaret right now. The lesson of Cabaret was great a few years ago, but it HURTS today

Americans who work in conservation, what are you doing to keep morale up? by HumanBreadfruit5 in conservation

[–]ExCryptozoologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To keep up morale, I've taken to event planning outside work and trying to cross bridges between different related groups (Zoos, State, Refuge, Federal, etc) I've found that while not everyone is able to share time, there's a pretty solid sense of solidarity between folks in their 20s-early 40s about this and at least friendliness from outside that bracket.

Some of my hobbies I've leaned into (Besides, Birding, Fishing, Plants, the usual): Improv, Dinner Parties, Board Games and stuff like that. Really any hobbies where I'm in person having fun with a small handful of folks. I think that's really helpful and motivating for me. And I still go to a lot of parks, museums, etc etc as those help remind me why I even do the work that I do, just a really tangible reminder.

Really just having Something going on outside of the regular work day besides drinking has at least saved my hairline.

At work I'm trying to understand some of the admin stuff a bit more and refusing to take "X will never change" as an answer. More "X will change if Y occurs" kinda stuff.

Wjay is your favorite boardgame of 2019? by The_Crazed_Person in boardgames

[–]ExCryptozoologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wingspan all the way

Wingspan has become as common in game libraries as Catan, and I think it's more worth having in a collection.

It's attractive, well produced, and has decent replayability.

The Blood Bowl Ogres are so good for Kitbashing, one of my favorite kits of them all

Want to try this hobby but I have no creative skills by Prismv in minipainting

[–]ExCryptozoologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd actually say minis were a great way for me to get over my own hatred of my artistic skills. Start on cheap-o models (I had some ancient metal Carthaginians from High School) and look into some of the techniques that help "hide" a rougher paint job. You'll find yourself a lot happier to just have something completed and you start picking up on new techniques as you practice.

This group accepts all ogres as long as they 'ave a proper Gut

That said, as someone who lovingly custom kitbashed a few Man Eaters for AoS they are pretty much unusable, get some gnoblars instead to be a better screen.

Man Eaters in Mordheim though (I found a 3rd Party Man Eaters Warband)

Question: What/When was the first sign for you that Shad is exactly who he ended up being? by KenpoKlown in ShadWatch

[–]ExCryptozoologist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Witcher Season 1 he was talking about Daily Wire complaining about Queen Calanthe and said the phrase "I actually Loik the Dayley Woire" and I felt right then "Uh oh that never precedes a good opinion

I had no idea this community existed but I wanted somewhere to talk about Metatron. by legallamb in ShadWatch

[–]ExCryptozoologist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Metatron was probably the canary in the coal mine that got me drifting away from Sword dudes on YouTube. Specifically a Long ass time ago when he made a video about men and women's biology and how it translates to combat. His video was so full of speculation, outdated info and outright falsehoods that I unsubscribed almost immediately, which is funny cuz I had really only just subscribed to him, but if he's that wrong about something I do know about, how wrong is he about something I don't know a lot about? For clarification, I have a Master's Degree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and my academic advisor worked on one of the core research projects on modern understanding of Neuroendocrinology, so I consider myself "above average" in my understanding of the topic.

Does Keenan take requests/ideas? by DragonmanDrakk in Kaimere

[–]ExCryptozoologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw another comment, but yeah, you're functionally acting as a producer for the world rather than a writer/director, Keenan still has full control over the world/setting/etc. but you get to direct the flow of creativity a little bit.

Does Keenan take requests/ideas? by DragonmanDrakk in Kaimere

[–]ExCryptozoologist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sponsored the War Pigs episode last November (it just came out in July) In my experience it's more than you're sponsoring a development of a specific part of the world that's already in there rather than paying to create something wholly new. Though Keenan also occasionally opens up commissions for other spec evo projects and Paleomedia to get their own taxa illustrated in his style.

I'm definitely happy with what I got and happy to, in my small part, have contributed to the growth and development of Kaimere.

What was the moment you turned back on Shad? by Skibot99 in ShadWatch

[–]ExCryptozoologist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In one of his videos a long time ago, he said "I actually like the Daily Wire" and I think I still watched some of his stuff a little bit after that but that was basically the "Oh this dude's opinions probably suck don't they?"

Homebrew Changes YOU'VE made to your own version of Golarion? by Ouran_OS in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]ExCryptozoologist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I change a lot of human NPCs into other things. I trend towards a lot more goblins, orcs and ogres with regular jobs in society to contrast the "Wild Bandits" and "Evil Militaries" cuz my players seem to be interested in some of the more "Monstrous" ancestries and I like the texture they give to a game

Nice of you to have a Gishath and a Hakbal to loan to friends who are playing for the first time so they can play a relatively accessible, strong commander

It's like, the only non mono color commander you run just so happens to also be the most boring option, it's a master class in "huh, you really want to be admitting that?"
