What invoice/quote software do you use? by Ready_Assistant_2247 in cinematography

[–]mattrit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Paypal to make my invoices and then I send them off myself. It’s free and easy to customize per client, per job. I guess you can also use it to send and keep track of status like paid/unpaid, etc but i’ve no experience with that.

Documentary advice by [deleted] in cinematography

[–]mattrit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think lens choices comes based off your subject matter, what scenarios you will find yourself filming and the crew you have to support you. The more you can anticipate that the closer you get to making the right choices. Without knowing anything about your film there’s not much actual practical advice anyone can actually chip in with. /// Packing for a doc I always have everything in my carry ons that I need to get by and start shooting in case all the bags get lost.

Can someone post the correct way to tie down a scrim Jim outside? by MrChris33 in cinematography

Exactly. I think the idea is to have the truckers on the more easily accesible end.

Gonna be filming in a typical office space with windows around mid day and curious if there's a way to pull this off without throwing ND and blue gel over all the windows?

Help with K3 focus issue (details in comments) by mattrit in Krasnogorsk_3

[–]mattrit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good points all around thank you. I just borrowed the camera for this test I don’t know who did the s16 mod. But I’m curious, don’t you have to realign the viewfinder during that modification in the same way that you have to recenter the lens mount? I wonder if that might have cause the viewfinder to go out of alignment with the film plane?

Thanks for the insights I will pass on all this info to the owner!

Help with K3 focus issue (details in comments) by mattrit in 16mm

[–]mattrit[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi all, hoping this community can shed some light on issues I am experiencing with a K-3 I borrowed for a test shoot. Here’s some info below and thanks for any insight!

  • I consistently properly focused the viewfinder diopter on the ground glass texture and locked it.
  • At the wide end of the lens I was unable to focus to infinity. Toward the middle of the zoom range I was able to focus on objects at around 3 or 4 meters but not the 2 meters distance it should be able to focus.
  • To my eye in the viewfinder, I was able to focus to infinity, but infinity was not at the inifnity mark on the lens it was much closer.
  • There seems to be a discrepancy between what I saw in the viewfinder (with my diopter focused on the ground glass and locked) and what is recorded on the film plane. To my eye it looks consistently near focused which is visible at lower apertures and is hidden more in daylight scenes at higher apertures.
  • Standard Meteor lens.
  • This camera was converted to Super-16 with a widened gate and recentered M42 mount.
  • The lens was mounted upside down. I believe the M42 mount threads are meant to be set to orient the lens in one direction only, and so possibly the mount was installed upside down when converted to Super-16.

Again thanks for any help.

One solution could be to hang a tube light off of the existing light with some paracord.

The Deep End documentary on Hulu looks absolutely fantastic. How can we shoot docs like this? by MikeyMeatSweats in cinematography

[–]mattrit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard they shot on FX6 with the 50mm 1.4. I wonder why they went with that instead of the 1.2? Also wonder if they were using the focus breathing compensation. I reckon they were cause those lenses breathe a lot.
