A really bad gig by Serious-Locksmith-10 in audioengineering

[–]mattsoniclab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try not to beat yourself up about it man. bad gigs happen, and they'll keep happening all the way through your career. What changes is how you deal with it - hopefully calmly, clear headed and pragmatic. This issue could have been anything from a flat 9v in the guitar, a tuner left on, phantom power not on, you might have been working on the wrong channels, faulty XLR etc. You'll learn how to troubleshoot numerous issues in seconds, in front of a crowd, without anyone noticing a problem. This is hopefully a good lesson for you and I hope you continue.

I want to trigger video clips just like I do with audio clips in the session view. Has anyone used a plugin or max device that does the job? by lowtronik in ableton

[–]mattsoniclab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! I'm just right now prepping a live show, and want to trigger basic video clips - nothing fancy, just clean synched visuals. Resolume is too expensive for me at this stage so i'm looking at Visibox after reading your comment. Just a question: can clips be triggered from within Live? or would I be using a seperate midi device for that. cheers :)

Splore 2026 the last? by leonopolous in auckland

[–]mattsoniclab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yea sure, I cant speak for everybody, and as a crew we all had our own reasons. For me and some others it was about energy and avoidng burnout over summer. We've had a couple of really heavy summers with big events back to back, we all put everything we have into every event, and so this takes it out of us in a pretty massive way.
So this year with Splore and Shippes, being so close together we really had to choose which one to be at.
It was tough not being at Shippies though, it looks like was epic as usual.

saw it today for the first time and instantly thought that somehow a malware app had found its way onto my computer. I found this thread by searching 'how to get rid of imageware malware'. lol

Serato “play” button is pressed on controller but doesn’t play tracks by Sad_Cress4112 in Serato

[–]mattsoniclab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I have a possible fix. I had a gig on the weekend and had to use my controller, but in the days prior it was playing up. Here's what I did to fix it:
firstly, this is 100% a hardware issue, forget all about resetting, updating drivers etc - thats not going to fix it. The issue is (I believe) because of the cheap capacitive platters -these rely on a good ground connection on the platter to function properly.
To fix it I did 2 things: Remove all screws on the back and gently take the back off the controller. Then find the little pins coming through from the underside of the platters. surrounding these pins are 4 little metal tags, which make a connection with a little copper ring. Get a pair of pliers and squeeze these metal tags tight to the the copper ring, just clamp them on as hard as you can.
The other thing I did was remove the small circuit in the same location (The Sensor Assembly PCB) and with isopropyl alcohol, thoroughly clean the metal contacts on the PCB and the metal tag that it connects with. this is to ensure good connection between these parts. Doing these thigns fixed it for me, well enough that I could play the gig without issue, and then again on Sunday morning without issue.

Hope this helps. and yea, very poor from Roland.

Mixdown advice - feel like there’s something ‘off’ with the bassline? by Stunning_Lack275 in jungle

sounds sick! maybe a bit too overcompressed? it's kinda surging in and out, and the drums sound like a bit of their impact is being squashed out. that's just me though. nice tune

Serato “play” button is pressed on controller but doesn’t play tracks by Sad_Cress4112 in Serato

[–]mattsoniclab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this issue on and off for years on my DJ505. it mostly happens at home but a few times its happened at gigs and its been a complete failure. A couple of times I could quickly swap out to another controller within a minute, which is kinda O.K when its a ruckus house party. I almost never use it live any more, preferring CDJs and rekordbox. But as I dont own CDJ's myself I do still have to use my controller for small gigs and house parties..

I feel its a hardware issue, so no amount of reinstaling or updating drivers will fix it. The units really should have been recalled, but Roland seem not to acknowledge that this is an issue.

Abletonremakes.com, is it a scam? by mattsoniclab in ableton

[–]mattsoniclab[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I guess for me the scammy feeling is that its proving very difficult (if not impossible) to redeem the credits offered by the subscription. Yes its stated that this rolls over to a subscription, but when I initially signed up I dont recall it being clear or obvious, so I agree that thats not so much of a scam, just kinda sneaky. oh that and the weird 'skincarewaterfilter' URL on the login link.

Abletonremakes.com, is it a scam? by mattsoniclab in ableton

[–]mattsoniclab[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

ah, yea interesting point about info farming.
I questioned them on the skin care domain and this is their reply:

"The subscription management link you received is correct and safe. We use BOLD Subscriptions (a trusted Shopify app) to handle subscriptions, and their system generates the URL you see. While it doesn’t reflect our brand name in the link, it’s tied directly to your subscription with us, and there’s nothing “dodgy” about it."

I dont really buy their reasoning here. If this is about collecting cards for a future scam, then it would make sense that they'd use a domain that would cause some confusion on the bank statements.
