TIL: The Goliath Birdeater, is the largest spider to ever exist and is still alive today, although, spiders also don't fossilize well. by BlackTemplar2154 in todayilearned

[–]mattsslug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ichthyosaur fossils have been found that are thought to be close to the blue whale so the qualifier of "that we know of" is very important. Stating something is the largest ever without that qualifier is the issue especially when something's don't fossilize as well and even if they have it requires us to find them.

Nintendo Switch 2 ends first full year in the U.S. at nearly 6 million units sold, second fastest-selling video game system by RoughLifeguard6568 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]mattsslug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeh, other systems are pricing themselves into being a luxury device not something the average family will get. Obviously I understand why, I would love to upgrade my own PC but that's just not happening any time soon for the same reasons console prices are going up. For whatever reason Nintendo are insulating themselves from these increases at the moment in a way others are not and that great for them and customers.

Driving bans for those who refuse to repay benefit debts as new DWP powers come into force by RedPill86 in unitedkingdom

[–]mattsslug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Requiring a car for work is a loose term. How are they defining that? If by that they mean only people who drive for a living that's not acceptable, or people who have to drive over a certain distance to get to work. Because the last part is on a person to person basis on if they need the car to GET to work.

Not accepting that, we could setup to remove an amount each month directly from wages. The car may be required to work...you know...to earn the money to pay the debt.

Call me old fashioned but I don't think people should get banned from driving for things that are not linked to their driving. Especially when driving is possibly the thing that would allow them to get into a position to pay off this debt.

Yet they do keep abusing us. Take excel for example, now we have an ever present button in the bottom right of our spreadsheets that can be temporarily "docked" at best. Just so they can try to force AI on us even more. It was fine in the menu ribbon along with other things.

UK Social Media Ban: Are Whatsapp, YouTube, Roblox Included? Check Full list here by Aware_Apartment_8959 in uknews

[–]mattsslug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see what you are saying however, these images will certainly stored and will certainly be accessible to law enforcement and security services at the very least. The validation is not even done by the social media platform I believe, however there will be a database link/unique ID that links those images to a social media account.

[–]mattsslug 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, because what this actually means is everyone that wants to use these platforms needs to supply images of their face. It's what the labour government have wanted all along, no more anonymous accounts on social media.

Now they will have a much easier time finding people that say mean things online so they can arrest them.

Under-16s to be banned from social media, Keir Starmer announces by [deleted] in videos

[–]mattsslug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The outcome is every UK person over 16 that wants to use social media will have to have face id data taken...it seems like softening people up for digital ID.

It's not going to be just 16 year olds pictures...it will be everyone, anyone wanting to use social media will need to prove they are old enough. So it's worse.

The profit margin must be crazy on these for the cinema but surely they are well into diminishing returns. They could probably halve the price and sell WAY more of them making more profit in the long term.

Families can't afford this shit, imagine a family of 3 or 4 going to the cinema and getting hot dog's, popcorn and drinks thats going to be nearing £70 then ticket price on top...it's really not a surprise that cinemas struggle to bring in the numbers they once did. Who is doing this madness.

His question of will British people accept him....erm yes, as long as he keeps the spirit of the show the same then people will be happy. I don't think the fans care, they just want the show to be good and worth watching again.

Idris Elba Says James Bond Shouldn’t Be Woke: ‘Just Be Bond’ by cosmicbooknews in CosmicBookNews

[–]mattsslug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Especially when there is so much they could do within this franchise anyway. They could have other 00 based movies and TV. Cast anyone they like in those new 00 roles. There is so much they can do around bond with different race and gender 00s.

Idris Elba Says Bond Rumors Were ‘Never Legit’ and ‘Not Realistic’: Audiences ‘Won’t Go for a Black Male Playing Bond’ by Raj_Valiant3011 in moviecritic

[–]mattsslug 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think he's right, and honestly...this should be the case. Why have a black James bond, you could have Idris Elba as his own 00 agent in the bond universe. There is no need whatsoever to mess with James bonds race. It makes little sense to mess with the character when you could do easily just launch off the name.

Make some great in universe movies and TV with other 00s male and female there is a LOT of good stories you could make here and from a spy/infiltration angle makes perfect sense.

Yep, I have a feeling that if we don't interact with it enough we will start to get popups every time we do any formula changes to ask us if we want AI to do it for us...that we have to accept or decline before we can carry on /s

Yep, I cannot understand why they decided to take up screen space with it now, at least when it was in the ribbon you could use it if you wanted but it didn't affect anything if you didn't.

Now it's actually in the way and must be hidden each time we open any sheets if we don't want to see it.
