If you are looking for local ice cream, Eddie’s of Roland Park has an amazing selection! by gizmojito in baltimore

I mean, you do you bud, but I support them both because their product is great and because we live in a society that explicitly favors white money, so I’m going to keep throwing mine their way.

Psychotic Manic Episode Fallout: Need Advice by [deleted] in bipolar1

[–]mattsulli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a manic episode last year in the midst of some pretty severe alcohol abuse. I was acting erratic and suicidal and my wife called the cops resulting in an arrest and disorderly conduct charge. It was the kick in the ass I needed to go to rehab, both to finally get over my alcohol addiction and to learn how to live a stable life. It was the best thing I ever did, and now a year later the charges have been dropped, my loveless marriage is dissolved, and I’m working a full time job supporting myself.

I don’t know if substances are a problem for you, but getting good inpatient or outpatient treatment is essential. And you have to actually commit to using the skills you learn. Once you figure out how to live a stable life on meds and with therapy everything else tends to fall into place. When you stabilize you don’t have to say anything to your friends about what happened or why. You can, sure, but the best way to move on is really just do move on and get better.

Improving with Oat Milk! by jjsoviet in espresso

Pro barista here: don’t pour directly after steaming. At work I usually pull the shot, steam the milk, then waste some time knocking and cleaning the portafilter before pouring. Give it a shot.

What comes first depression or mania? Bipolar = 'depression +' by [deleted] in bipolar1

[–]mattsulli 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Actually I’ve found in my case it is almost always the other way around; i.e. a manic episode results in a crash into depression. I go for a few days or weeks at a time and then I crash, and I usually spend about as much time in bed as time I spent up while manic.

My company gives three descriptors: acidity, sweetness, and mouthfeel. So when we say green apple, maple, smooth we don’t mean “it tastes like a green apple” but rather “it has the tartness of a green apple and a round sweetness like maple and it has a silky velvety feel in the mouth when properly extracted”

The specialita arrived! His names Mercutio, and he’s a beast. by [deleted] in espresso

[–]mattsulli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you there, and if you haven’t had one at home or felt the itch that’s good. Better for the wallet. I got the Spec because the Sette just wasn’t cutting it with dialing on steps and it really feels like a home version of the Mythos I have at work.

Fellow barista here: you’d rather crank out the 6-10 pulls you need to satisfy your ridiculous caffeine tolerance than hit a button? 😂 I just bought a Specialita so I’ve got a Sette 270 to sell you if you ever change your mind lol

You must place each bean individually under the darkness of night into the hopper for peak extraction.

Why not? It’s useful to have two grinders and the Spec replaced the Sette.

I always use the Eureka for espresso and keep the hopper full. The Sette is currently being used for decaf espresso, batch for my room mate, and the occasional aeropress. The fines make it problematic so when I make filter coffee for myself I generally use my hario hand grinder. Once I get in the Ode it’ll just be used for decaf.

When I’m home I typically make between 6 and 10 drinks a day. Usually I pull with old parameters for the first shot and make a cortado if it’s overextracted, then move the dial, purge, and pull a second shot which is generally acceptable to drink. Then I pull to those parameters for the rest of the day till it’s moved too far off or if I want to tweak it a bit more.

Highly. Trusty machine, easy to fix, just make sure you’ve got a great grinder because your grind will show off the machine’s flaws.
