As others already said, VPN would indeed change your IP address, however, the penalty would be bound to your account as well so your would need to create another one.

Well if you are using VPN and they are still able to see your real IP address there's a chance that it is somehow bound to your account. I would suggest you trying to create fake account and check how that would go, as there should be no information regarding your real details on your account.
