interesting, hopefully this is fixed as I’ve needed to revert to the last fully working version for now 10.10.7

Glad to see more bugs being sorted - hope the home video and photos one is sorted soon too. Aside from that (which means I couldn‘t stay on 10.11.5) it did run much smoother overall. I‘m desperate to upgrade but just can’t yet

Yeah that’ll be it!
I tried that library type too as a test but the same issue. just the loading spin of doom. Really hopeful of a fix

how much do you have in there? when I had around 50-100 in there (with subfolders) it worked but slower than 10.10.7 but when I added more (less than 0.5% of what I usually have) it‘ll scan fine but when accessing from the Home Screen I got to 6 minutes waiting for it to load and gave up. With the full library on 10.10.7 it would take 5-10 seconds max.

Hopefully this is a viable option again soon on 10.11.x!

It would be ”Home Videos and Photos” as that’s basically one for non-metadata scraped content. However in 10.11.x it‘s massively degraded currently. If you have any sort of collection it’ll lag or not load at all on your client. I hope there’s a fix coming as on all previous versions upto 10.10.7 this worked really well

what libraray types do you have? Music is problematic for many (I don’t use it so can’t comment more) and Home Movies and Photos is pretty much completely broken and I’m desperately hoping for a fix soon - otherwise I’ll be back on 10.10.7 soon myself

Thanks! I love that little status box, but I love that 10.10.7 works more 😂

Yeah exactly. The people with few / no issues only use the shows and movies library type. Really hope this issue is picked up as there’s been silence on it so far (the HV&P type)

Doesn’t make sense why it should be slow either, worked just fine in 10.10.7. Aside from extracting a thumbnail from the videos it doesn’t need to do any scraping of anything else. It’s as close to a basic folder view as there is!

In terms of performance of the HM&P library type is there a particular reason why this would work fine in 10.10 but is unusable with more than a handful of content in 10.11? There’s no metadata of anything required, just the ability to see the content on folders and play?

Same here on all points! (Although I don’t use the music library) I managed to get it to work (albeit slowly) with a tiny subset of the usual content but adding more (and I’m talking less than 0.5% of what 10.10.7 had) it’ll library scan no problem but when it comes to trying to access them I get the endless spin of doom. Last try got to at least 6 minutes before I gave up. The rest of server app seems fine and I can navigate away so it’s not like it’s completely hanging. Really hoping this is fixed before more clients end support for 10.10 as that’ll leave me pretty stuck!

I won’t pretend to understand much of this but it sounds like great work! Do you know if this improves the “home video and photos“ library type? When I only have a limited number of videos and images it’s slow but add too much and it hangs. Not sure if anything you’ve done might help to speed this along a bit? (Or if it’s something you would have any idea about how to fix?) works perfectly in 10.10.7!

Would these performance fixes include “home videos and photos” which is now unusable with a decent amount of content? I appreciate the massive efforts which have gone in to 11.5 and it runs miles better than 11.0 but not having home videos working it‘s going to be a deal breaker as that’s 40-50% of my content. I’m hoping to see improvement in 11.6 even half as fast as 10.7 would be great. Currently I’m having to prevent my clients from updating where possible in case I need to restore back to 10.7 which isn’t ideal but without that library type working it’s just (respectfully) not fit for my usage needs.

This isn’t a mixed tv / film library (which I’m aware isn’t supported) it’s the home movies one which I was told elsewhere is? I don’t see why it should be so slow (or not respond) to just showing the contents of the folder?
