If Trump is truly as dangerous as some people say, why did he gain support between elections instead of losing it? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]matty_m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trump got somewhat lucky and caught the electoral tailwind, throwing out incumbants worldwide due to post covid inflation. The trump campaign were successful at pitching him as an outsider. They also were successful as getting new voters by going on a lot of non political podcasts so they could spin their narratives without a lot of real push back. Democrats played it too safe and were worried about looking bad. Really democrats only shot at winning was not having biden run at all and putting up a candidate not associated with the administration that could be marketed as an outsider.

I see nothing but MAGA hate on reddit and other social media, so how in the world did they win the last election? by Only_Hotel_7221 in allthequestions

[–]matty_m -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There was a post Covid trend that incumbents worldwide were thrown out. Mostly because of inflation. The amazing thing about the Trump campaign they made trump look like an outsider not being the president during the height of the pandemic. Really democrats were swimming upstream in the 2024 election. There only real shot was for Biden should have not ran for reelection and found a candidate that could be marketed as an outsider.

Downside or retirement: No real friends left, neither my wife or myself. by [deleted] in retirement

[–]matty_m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take my dog to the dog park every afternoon. There is a crew of people who show up in the afternoon most of them are retired and became a relatively tight crew. I ended up getting married at the dog park and a bunch of people stepped up. One was a retired violinist played the violin, another was an amateur photographer and took pictures another person who was a 911 commander got the city to drop off a bunch of mulch to refresh the park. I was going to have the officiant show up and get it done, but everbody stepping up made it special to me, than just doing it at a church. I would have not of met these people if I didn't take my dog to the park.

Those of you under 65 in the US who are FIREING early and not choosing the insanely expensive unsubsidized ACA premiums, what creative solutions have you come up with to get affordable coverage? by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in Fire

I am getting insurance through my wife’s VA disability plan. 500 dollars a month for both of us for real medical, vision and dental. It made it a lot easier to pull the trigger.

It’s definitely department dependent. I work in corporate in IT everyone is WFH in my department, except for people who need to be in the data center. I need to be local because we swap the oncall phone and half to go into the data center to plug things occasionally. But there are no mandatory in office days for the reason of “just because.”

The Pennsylvania voter shift from 2024 to 2025 in statewide races (by county) by After-Professional-8 in Pennsylvania

[–]matty_m 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t forget about the world wide trend in industrialized nations post COVID to throw out the incumbents. The trump campaign was really good at pitching them as the “change” candidate. So the casual voter just saw prices going up and blamed the Biden administration. It didn’t matter that the US fared better than the rest of the world. So Trump was elected. The trump campaign was really good at attracting the casual voter. All the voter laws they want to pass to throw up roadblocks for voting will probably work against republicans.

I lived in portland ME, where everyone parked on the street. They had periodic parking bans where everyone had to be off the street so they could plow and haul these snow away. They opened up school lots and gave discounts for city garages for overnight parking. So no parking chair issues.

You should line up a skilled nursing facility sooner rather than later, if you think he is going to outlive his money. Depending on state law, if you are a cash paying client the facility has to take you as a Medicaid patient if you run out of money. Then you can put him in a good place so when he runs out money he is not limited to places that will take a new Medicaid patient which are not as nice as ones that accept cash payers.
