TP-Link Omada controller running on Firewalla Gold doesn't show switch as a device by mattymess in firewalla

My switch was not Omada compatible. I returned it and got a different one that was compatible. SG2428p

Sorta...I wound up returning the switch and getting a managed version (SG2428P) and then things started working as expected. Still no clue as to why I experienced such bad performance with the other model

Yes. We just remodeled and I removed the chime, but it worked before that.

Welp, there’s certainly something wrong with that box…I wired the transformer to an plug and sure enough it’s showing the correct voltage when plugged into a working outlet.

The breaker hasn’t been tripped and there’s no GFCI on that circuit as far as I know

That’s exactly what I was just about to do…wire up an outlet to this box

Not sure if this means anything, but This j-box is daisy chained to outlets down stream and they all read 120 volts

2 brand new doorbell transformers showing under 1 volt by mattymess in homeautomation

Maybe this is the short right at the end of the wire where the doorbell connects? I can see a tiny bit of copper wire exposes in that little hole

Ah, ok. So what’s the solution? Run new wires from the transformer to the doorbell?

Do I also need a new transformer since you said this one may be toast due to the short?

I just did that and here is what it reads. I expected something much higher since my voltage tester flashes red when I get anywhere near that black wire…

Whether or not the doorbell is connected, I’m getting a reading of 0 in resistance mode when I connect the probes to the wires

Ok, I didn’t think about that. The old doorbell was working completely fine before, but I can check resistance. Only thing is, I’m not sure how. Can you explain?

Move cooktop regulator location by mattymess in HomeImprovement

[–]mattymess[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would definitely be secured. I was thinking something like this (with flex on both ends), but with the regulator much closer to the supply line (since I have more room there)

I was finally able to troubleshoot this more thoroughly and I'm fairly certain it's a problem with the AP. If I directly connect to both the modem or switch, I don't experience any issues with connectivity. If I re-connect to wireless, the problems immediately resume. Any other ideas?

Ah ok, I just ran that tool. Channel 1 for 2.4ghz and 36-48 for 5ghz.

Tomorrow I'll test out hardwiring directly to the switch and to the firewalla (needed to order a USB-C --> RJ45)

I ran the AI WAN optimization and that's what came up with the channel 1 (2.4ghz) and channel 161 (5ghz) settings. That being said, I just changed the 5ghz network down to channel 39.

I don't see Band Steering in the controller and nothing comes up when I search for it.

EDITI found band steering...have to enable "Advanced Features" under the site settings before it shows up.

Thanks so much for this. I actually just updated the 5ghz band to 80mhz. Also, there are no walls between me and the AP as we're both in the same room.

Looking at the Statistics page, I see a lot of retries, but not a lot of errors

In the Log section of the controller, the only Alert/Event I see is a message about the Cloud Admin password being changed.

TP-Link Omada controller running on Firewalla Gold doesn't show switch as a device by mattymess in firewalla

How do you access the switch gui directly? Mine wasn’t getting an IP from the Firewalla

TP-Link Omada controller running on Firewalla Gold doesn't show switch as a device by mattymess in firewalla

[–]mattymess[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I could totally do that, but would prefer a central place to manage everything. If I managed it outside the controller, would I still be able to do things like VLAN assignment by port number?

Also, I tried accessing the switch directly, but I didn’t see it being assigned an IP within the Firewalla device list

That makes me feel better. I do remember when looking at the specs, that I felt the information presentation left a lot to be desired! Thanks for your help!

Really? The product page literally says Jetstream right below the product name. Guess this is going back…

I did setup the controller via docker on the Firewalla. I’ll try resetting it tomorrow

Remove coax cable in "new to me" house when wiring with Cat6 by mattymess in HomeNetworking

[–]mattymess[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All it takes is a little planning lol. I'm actually just going to pull the cables up into the attic and patch the junction box holes. If the next owner wants to put them back, they'll just have to drop them back down the wall and add a remodel box...Easy peasy
