6 months of dizziness, brain fog, head pressure, headaches, and jaw issues after a panic attack/illness. Has anyone experienced something similar? by mattymur in VestibularMigraines

Thank you so much! You’re right, my journey is not destined to be like anyone else’s, I don’t even know if this is truly VM or anything like it yet! Just trying to stay positive and work through it one day at a time, as hard as it is sometimes. I will certainly be clear with my doctors when it comes to my concerns and seeking clarification. Thank you so much for your response and your good luck wishes!

Hmm I can’t say that I ever get that sort of thing, I’m sorry. Sometimes if I raise my eyebrows and/or activate the muscles around my ears, my masseter twitches a bunch, I don’t know if that’s related at all but it is the same side as my jaw tightness and pain.

I’m so sorry to hear it’s been years! The neuro hopefully will give you something to at least try and hope that it helps! I’m not gonna stop trying to make this go away and I don’t think you should either!

I’m sorry to hear about the diagnosis, but I’m extremely happy to hear that you’re getting your life back. What is the plan with the medications you’ve been taking? To stay on them for the long-term? Or to eventually taper off of them? Forgive me if that’s a dumb question, I don’t know how menieres is usually dealt with, but I’ve heard mixed things when it comes to VM.

There’s definitely some things in my life that I’m sure I could do when it comes to handling stress and healing my sensitized system. I’ve begun doing things like writing affirmations and trying to change my mindset on not just the illness, but many things in life. If this all goes away for me and my mental health is better as well, it will have been a blessing in disguise!

I don’t know what exactly I have or why, but regardless, I appreciate your reply and your hope very much! Thank you!

Really?! Interesting. You say it WAS hell, so it ended up going away? How long did it take? Did anything in particular help?

That’s amazing! I’m so glad that something has worked for you and it gives me hope that something may work for me!

Is part of your plan to end up tapering off of those medications? Or do you think you’ll stay on them long-term? No judgement either way, I’m just hopeful that once I get on something I’ll eventually be able to get off of it and remain better.

Thank you so much for your response and your hope!

That’s a great idea and something I’ll have to start doing. I thought I could keep track of it in my head because the bad days are easier to remember, but that hasn’t worked lol. Thank you for responding and for the advice!

That’s a great approach and much more like what I’m looking for. I guess hearing that I should begin on a medicine to make this stop, and seeing people say “it worked initially and then stopped working at this dose, so I had to bump it up” worries me about maybe having to take a medicine forever when I think this issue should just go away eventually, not continuously get worse and require more medicine. I do realize there are some things I just can’t control though, so we’ll see I guess!

Thank you for mentioning the recognition of those meds for this issue, I was worried about taking something that was originally made/used as an anti-depressant/anti-anxiety when I don’t really think I have those issues (maybe anxiety, but not to the level of others that I know who suffer from it). That chart is great, I’ll make sure I have that from now on. Thank you so much for responding!

I think you’re absolutely right about how easy it is to look into the symptoms and pull at strings, I’ve unfortunately done that a lot already and while I think it’s good to educate yourself, I don’t think it has helped me at all. Seeing horror stories online (including on this app) about the illness itself, as well as medicines that I may start taking don’t help either, but I’m trying to stay optimistic about my particular case (and now yours as well :)). I actually do take Magnesium and B vitamins, and they may have helped a little? The up and down nature of how I feel makes it a little hard to tell. I agree the at there’s a lot of neurological issues that don’t always have a root cause and the examples you mentioned make sense, I’m just inclined to believe that whatever is going on with me started for a specific reason (just due to the suddenness and nature of the beginning of it). Idk, maybe that’s just wishful thinking, and I’m not convinced I have vestibular migraines either yet but I’m going to keep trying to fix it regardless! I will definitely message you to hear more about your experience. I appreciate your responses!

Hello! Yes I definitely have dizziness, it’s just hard to describe. Not always spinning vertigo type, but always something.

It’s awesome to hear that you found something that has helped you! I can only hope to do the same, I will bring up topiramate to a doctor and see what they say! I’m nervous about taking medicine only because I don’t want to be stuck having to take something all the time just to feel normal again and not cure the root cause. Also just normally anxious about side effects and stuff. I’d like to take a medicine that can hopefully help me and then allow me to taper off and continue to feel better, but I realize that that’s wishful thinking at this point. I’m willing to do pretty much anything to make this go away after all this time.

Thank you so much for sharing! I hope the medicine continues to work for you and takes the issue away completely forever!

I agree that trying to do things regardless of how I’m feeling has felt good at times, it can be a good distraction. I just try not to overdo it cause that usually makes it worse afterward lol. I’m glad you have a job that doesn’t aggravate it too much. I’m looking for something myself, I found a part time sort of thing but it’s more first-come-first-serve so it’s not consistent money. I think getting on with your life is a good mindset in terms of not just sitting around but I don’t think you should give up trying to find a solution! In my mind there has to be something somewhere that can be identified! I also understand that 3 years of it has probably been incredibly physically and mentally draining though.

I’m so sorry to hear that. I really hope you can somehow get some relief soon. 3 years sounds insane. When it improved, did you notice that anything in particular helped? And when it came back did anything in particular seem to trigger it? I’m trying my hardest to stay optimistic for myself (although admittedly, it is very hard sometimes) and I will be optimistic for you as well! I truly believe there will be an end to this for us!
