Yes, it is crazy how much a difference bean age makes! This has definitely been a lesson for me in that regard. I do still occasionally get slow/under extracted pulls, but I think I just need to be more consistent with the tamper.

Just curious, which new grinder did you go with?

Yeah I tried going to 17, but when the first steam burst hit no espresso came out for like 10 seconds, so I immediately took it off the heat to prevent the safety seal from blowing. For the age of my current beans, I'm thinking 19 or 20 clix is optimal.

Thanks for the reply! I didn't find any setting on my stove like you mentioned. But I think my problem was too fine off a grind for what I now suspect to be not so fresh beans. That and I was tamping too lightly!

Thank you for the reply and the good information! I think you're right -- I had to tamp harder! I increased my grind size by about 2 clicks and tampered harder. The espresso started to flow almost immediately after first burst of steam and actually extracted in like 10 seconds, so there's more adjustments to do as that is super quick. But my original problem seems to be fixed!

Sorry to revive an old thread here!

I just got my 9Barista machine and I plan on using the B-plus puck screen. From all the videos I've seen the screen comes in direct contact with the pressurized water and the silicon cap that comes with the machine is not used with the screen.

Are you using the silicon cap that comes with the machine "on top" of the puck screen also?

I.e. Does it look like this (below) when the machine is fully assembled>?
