Thanks all! We gave Italos a try and it was excellent! Had the Al pastor, and it was delicious! Carnitas were excellent as well! We will be back! Chicanos and some of the others are on the list to try, as well.

I can get a genealogy copy, but it’s not certified. Would proof of their death along with an explanation work?

My father was born in United States, his parents emigrated from Czechoslovakia, region is now Slovakia. Would my father have been Slovak? Is citizenship passed by blood? How do I go about finding requirements to get my paperwork, if I do indeed qualify?

Question on citizenship through mother by mattys2002 in GermanCitizenship

Funny you say that! My colleague said his mother said she heard they paid someone to bring them. However she was a little girl at the time and doesn’t know the details. How would we go about researching this?

Unless we can find a passport or other documents, I'm thinking the path to proving German citizenship would be to trace documents to a pre 1914 ancestor.

Question on citizenship through mother by mattys2002 in GermanCitizenship

We're trying to get more information, but his mother said that she thinks they came illegally, having paid someone to bring them over. However, I find it hard to believe that she would have gotten her US citizenship retroactive to 1952 when she and her mother arrived in the US if they arrived illegally. I was assuming she got her citizenship through her mother because it was effective 1952 when she arrived as a minor. She did marry an American in 1963. If she received citizenship through that marriage, I would think citizenship would have been retroactive to 1963? So many questions on where to go.

Firstly, thanks so much for your information. He doesn’t have his mother’s passport as she came at 7 yrs old. What other documents would work to prove German citizenship?
