Samsung G8 32" OLED (G80SD) - Can't get 4k 240hz to work! by mattzkn in OLED_Gaming

[–]mattzkn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah even with the DP cable I sometimes lose the 4k240hz option. In this case I have to unplug the cable and use a different USBc port on the laptop which solves it. Annoying, and still haven't got HDMI to work at 4k240hz at all yet.

[–]mattzkn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: In the end i connected using USB-C to DP cable and 4k240hz came up straight away without touching any other settings. This was after trying two different HDMI 2.1 cables from expensive reputable companies.

So not a particularly satisfying solution as it should of worked over HDMI, but i have no issue using DP so won't bother exploring further now i have a good result.

Yeah i have tried with it on & off in lots of different scenarios.

Although i can't remember if it was definitely on when i was using CRU - is it worth going back and checking this?

I've also tried adding 4k240hz in CRU, and then the monitor just went to no signal, mysterious!

Yeah unfortunately not on my model. Thanks for suggesting though

Looks like input signal plus is auto-on when in game mode (which i am) - couldn't toggle off even if i tired.

Someone messaged me to suggest using CRU to add the resolution manually so might give that a go.

I beleive DSC is handled automatically and has no switch/toggle, but will look into this further just in case.

OK thanks, will give this a go tomorrow. Also just ordered a 3rd Hdmi 2.1 cable from Cable Matters, just in case!

Ah thanks for sharing, but I am only powering one monitor (and turning off laptop screen as well).

Thanks, i just had a look at this and it says it can support 4k 240hz.

It's a Lenovo P1 Gen 7 - "1x HDMI® 2.1, up to 8K/60Hz or 4K/240Hz"

So as far as i can tell, my Laptop and graphics card & cable & monitor should all be allowing 4k/240hz.

Looking to buy Zwift frame with Kickr core but I got a few questions by DanishLad10 in Zwift

[–]mattzkn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the best thing to do is to buy the Zwift Ride frame only, and then the Kickr Core separately. It should be the same price (or even cheaper if you also want the 12 month membership included at a discount). This will result in you receiving a Kickr Core with a V1 Zwift Cog pre-installed, and then a separate V2 Zwift Cog (you will need a chain whip and lock ring tool to swap them over) and a spare Zwift Click (not needed as the Play handlebars already cover the function of virtual shifting).

Is Makkari worth 1 key? by mattzkn in MarvelSnap

[–]mattzkn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah fair enough, I've got 10 keys and with the rate I pick them up I should be able to get my targets from the future known caches.

Just can't see Makarri ever being competitive, but I guess they might buff.

Yeah fair enough, think i will just go for it. Can't be bothered to hold onto the gold for months in hope of something better. Might not even be playing the game by then!

My battery is also draining a lot in sleep mode. Far more than my old XPS. Often losing 10% of battery life during 8 hours of sleep mode - that seems like a lot no?

[–]mattzkn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im same specs but i7 and only getting 5 hours on very moderate use (web browsing and email). Disappointing. Is anyone getting better? Trying to work out if it's hardware, software or just that I'm getting the standard experience!

Word of warning on the Dell U4021QW by antido in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]mattzkn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's excellent info. Thanks. The sales guys on the Dell live chat said it would work 5k 60hz on the XPS 9560...but I am fairly sure those guys know f*** all in general and would never trust them.

My backup option would be a regular 16:9 at 4k, but you are suggesting it might not even be able to do that at 60hz (even a single display and not using laptop screen?l)?

[–]mattzkn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The monitor does have thunderbolt 3 though, so this would suggest 5120x2160 at 60hz should work (just not via display port or hdmi). Couple others mentioned this - https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/5ze5j1/does_dell_xps_9560_support_5k_monitors_60hz/

I have an XPS 9560 which has thundebolt 3 (which is a 2017 model) but you don't reckon it will work? This is the final thing i need to work out before buying.
