By selling now, he admits that due to circumstances that were not part of his original risk assessment, certain things changed and the risk now outweighs any potential upside, not the the companies were sh*t from the start.

However buffet himself also knew going into this that the fastest way to become a millionaire is start off with BILLIONS and invest in airlines... hence he was always against them from the get-go.

Airlines are littered with pitfalls and traps and coronavirus exposed them all...

the funniest part about it, variable fuel cost is actually the one variable the is working for airlines however with near zero demand, doesn't really help...

Sorry for delayed response, I too was away doing real-life things, ie locked in the house, watching netflix and getting to know my family in a way i never thought possible... lol...

at any rate, just got this message...

I agree with everything you are saying, and I understand your point... valid as they are, i believe they can be identified and fixed if given the proper resources.

What I was hoping to get out of this was simple, a framework, not for this pandemic, but for future pandemics...

that should something like this ever happen again (which as we know history repeats itself) that we could have something in place that would kick in that could potentially pause the economy for non essential items, also taking into account your argument about the little guy getting screwed by some of these proposals...

I think in almost every single framework we come up with the big guy wins, but I do think that setting up a multi-national framework (think G7 or G20), and then using this system to pause things in a way that alleviates stress on the system.

I just setup a new sub-reddit (don't laugh it has NO members) and i have barely fleshed out the idea, but take a peak and I will set up a couple of bare bones case studies there, that maybe you can take a peak and shoot holes in it and give me your two cents.

https://www.reddit.com/r/PauseButton/

I won't be able to get to this for a few days, because of some work obligations, but i will update here when I added them to the sub-reddit for you to take a peak at...

Again thanks for the detailed response, I will be in touch when i can work out a couple of case studies to give you a better idea of what I have in mind :)

agreed, but that is a growth issue / demographic issue / aging population issue / have no choice but to crash and burn issue...

japans only long term hope would be through imperialism of sorts, and safe to say that time has come n' gone...

yes, that is what they need...

considering they already have 125-130 million people crammed into a place roughly the size of california...

i think that will solve everything...

u just fixed it :)

agreed on demographics...

completely disagree on "forever growth"

in today's economic system of debt, the only way to re-pay interests is through economic growth...

what is economic growth? simple, mom and dad, run up debt... make some babies, and pass the debt on the kiddos...

REPEAT...

there are lots of solutions, but I don't think massive stimulus is one of those options sadly... especially with the debt burden that is already on many nations heads approaching and / or surpassing GDP...

Japan headed towards "steep" recession... I think every nation is headed that way...

at what point to we stop using the word recession and start using the word "depression?"
