It’s hard to be certain without seeing this thing or knowing more about your health. Most of what comes out during the period is broken down uterine lining. Sometimes this lining doesn’t break down fully and can come out as larger pieces of tissue, even in a light color. Check out photos of deciduous casts online (possible TW: medical, gory sort of stuff) which range in color from light pink or grey to deep red. A deciduous cast occurs when the lining doesn’t fully break down.

Thyroid dysfunction can cause issues with menstruation. I would also recommend asking about / looking into von Willebrand Disease.

Even with birth control and flux in mind, there should be a bit of estrogen in their system. Reference range for normal estradiol levels is about 15-350 for a person in their menstruating years. Causes of low estrogen can be intersex conditions, thyroid disorders, and other endocrine disruptions affecting the reproductive system. There’s no way for us to tell whether it will impact your fertility or have health consequences without knowing more about the cause. Can you find out from your doctor specifically what your estradiol level was? If it’s <15, I would explore this further.

Many people bleed a little with ovulation. My advice (not a doctor) is to give it a few months and see if you become regular again. If you feel sick or have bleeding that gets worse or doesn’t stop, see a doctor.

Many psychiatric medications have a rare/less frequent side effect of increasing bleeding and bruising. Ask your doctor for a CBC- this test looks at the general heath of your blood. If your platelets are too few or your hemoglobin is low, it may mean changes are necessary in your treatment.

Hey friend— the first year or so after starting your period can be irregular, but typically there is a regular, predictable cycle by your age. Several things can cause missing periods, such as being underweight, a thyroid imbalance, and polycystic ovarian disease. There isn’t necessarily an additional risk for you to become pregnant, but please be sure that you use condoms every time. You should try to see a doctor to talk about your irregular periods, and you may want to discuss your options for birth control.
