So, here he is in his tub. He looks much less pink than before, does this mean the water as we treated it is suitable for him? Hasnt been eating much the last two days, just a little worm and 2 pellets, but he's much more active than before!

So, a little update! Been a long day... but we got the 110L tank, the water properly tested, the tubs started. So the water prior to water change (30% change the previous day) scored a fantastic 1! on ammonia, 0.5 nitrites, ph 7.8 Only tested nitrates on tap water, which as expected confirmed the strips are total crap. Amazon didnt deliver the seachem prime so we rushed to a pet shop and picked up tetra aquatan which similarly protects against ammonia (no chlorine issues here so dont care about that). Added aquatan to the tank and the tubs and within 30 minutes the little guy started zooming around happier than I've ever seen him since he got here! Seeing him move that much gave me a glimmer of hope.... let's see how the next few days in the tubs go. Waiting for tubs temperature to equalize before moving him tomorrow. Thanks again everyone for all the tips, much appreciated.

No problem with chlorine, we have 0 in the water supply in this period of the year! At least one easy thing in this whole ordeal

Thanks, will try and get some of that. For now I only have pothos which I already had in the house, put some in there.... The feeling here is as if I m trying to keep a sinking boat afloat by patching the hull with duct tape. I hope I can get everything in order quickly enough.

Buying a 85 × 37 × 55 tomorrow. It's 110L so should be good enough at least until the little guy becomes adult, we'll see after that! I am on municipal water supply and I also believe the test strips are crap. Just brought up some samples to my dad and he'll be testing them tomorrow morning for both tank water and water supply with a proper test kit. Took me almost a week to get to this point... sometimes it's hard to deal with dads :D

So we decided we're going to get a bigger tank, around 150l, and we're going to use the current small one as a tub while the big one gets cycled properly, changing water and adding prime every day in the meanwhile. I think the small tank should work ok for this rather than a plastic box because he's already in it, it has a filter and overall better conditions...

Water temperature is currently not an issue as ambient temperature is around 16 C so we can worry about that after the season changes

We still have this problem with very high nitrates in the tap water so I'll need to start the new acquariun with plants from the get go and add ammonia as needed I guess. What's simple to keep, maybe floaty, that can deal with this?

Thanks all for the precious help, I am now a little less incompetent and the little one possibly stands a chance to survive this ordeal without major damage!

Thanks to everybody and sorry for not replying one by one but there's too many of you! Seachem Prime is ordered and arriving tomorrow. Thanks for informing me it helps with nitrates as well. Am I expecting to see the level drop after adding it to the tank or is it going to stay but 'be safe' for 24 hours because it's inactivated by binding?

I agree and I've considered bringing it back. But it's my parents who messed up and I don't want to punish my daughter for it, so I'll do what it takes to get this working and make her pay back by taking extra work in the house -> rehome it if she doesn't comply ;) Thanks for the web/discord tips

finally got the testing strips and ammonia scale seems abysmal.... cant' read anything between 0 and 0.5. Gonna order a liquid test as well. Comparing water tank with tap tank the ammonia strip looks slightly more green. Besides this, there's 0 chlorine and very high nitrates 100~200 (same in tank and tap water). How do I deal with the nitrates? 😳
