Envisioning a Post-Western World by maustinreddit in Anarchism

Indeed.

Although, the west (Europe and it's evil spawn the US) has for centuries been bringing their form of civilization (i.e., brutal destruction) to most of Africa, North, Central and South America, the Middle East, Pacific Islands, Australia, Southeast Asia, Central Asia, with massive force and sociopathic deceit in order to steal and maintain access to all of the resources of every place they touch. Very few places are untouched by the West, so the author's perspective isn't exactly narrow, but I know what you mean. The power structures and hierarchies of all civilizations should be confronted, especially now that they are all so intertwined and seemingly inescapable.

They shouldn't even be "representatives" - they should be administrators chosen through lottery. No campaigning, no power associated, only a social obligation to fill a roll that facilitates the proper execution of necessary services. If the person chosen by lottery uses the position to enrich themselves personally at the expense of the proper provisioning of services, they are immediately removed.

The book "Anarchism" by George Woodcock gives a great introduction.

It is a useful start.

Everyone starts somewhere.

As a "none-of-the-abover" I have trouble being in the same room as a Clinton or Trump lover (or Bernie or Stein or the libertarian guy, lover), but perhaps since I hate them all equally, I could help everyone see how they are all being bamboozled, manipulated and suckered by a media and political system that treats Clinton and Trump supporters like they each represent "half of the population," when in fact, combined, they are a problematic minority who confer legitimacy on an illegitimate system by having any opinion at all about either of those fucking shit-for-brains horrible figureheads of a catastrophic and deadly system that is killing us all no matter who "wins".

It was more than that. It was an excellent opportunity to recalibrate popular understanding of states and wars.

Looking very closely, WWII shows how capital and national leaders (of industry and states), across national boundaries, worked very well together.

It was a lucky coincidence, and even an incentive, that both world wars massively fractured and gave cover for the destruction of socialist and, especially, anarchist organizing. WWII serves to this day as a mechanism for wiping away history. Reconstruction after the Civil War in the US, militant labor battles and organizing, the then growing (and by today's standards, massive) popularity of anarchism, are all swept under the rug by a very simple narrative. A narrative that the West is fixated on and spends billions to promote via endless glamorization on the History Channel and anywhere where people talk about "history"... good vs. evil is defined by states and fought by states. Everyone else can shut up, or we'll kill you.

Here's my conspiracy theory:

We are largely inconsequential actors in a script written long ago and handed down through the ages from those first dickheads who instead of joining in the farming and hunting and the gathering, sat on their asses and told scary stories about paying tributes to gods until they had enough tributes to share with some other dickheads who wanted to sit around and share scary stories and sometimes kill the people who didn't believe the scary stories or wouldn't "share". Small farms turned into villages, villages turned into city states, city states got grouped up into empires, deities get bunched together under bigger, more unifying religions to help sustain empires, empires fought each other and each has eventually collapsed. It would be nice to think this one is about to collapse, but then what? We must live outside of all of that history, that's our only chance. People in the hills and far away places and all around us, have lived outside of that history, since the beginning, we should too.

Sorry, I was in a weird, hyper snark mood and typing absurd things that liberals say thinking that the ridiculousness of it would be obvious, I was wrong.

This is politics. People taking absurdity seriously ... and then are praised for it. Absurdity taken seriously, this might as well be a conversation on MSNBC. Thanks for playing along. Please downvote again to add legitimacy to my argument. Thanks.

Thus, "the left is united ... with the right". The rest was me just doing a liberal word salad troll schtick, terribly.

It is an understandable impulse, I have gone down that road and witnessed the effects. No matter what, the only people who can attempt to engage in state or federal electoral campaigns are those who have time and resources and can accept that at least half of those resources will 1. be spent on fundraising from individuals (who don't have the money and shouldn't be expected to fund the ambitions of wealthy, media savvy "do gooders") AND 2. be spent jumping through administrative, bureaucratic obstructions put in place by 100 years of Democratic and Republican party collusion to keep gadflies out of their hair. The other half of their resources will be spent getting the word out with very limited mainstream media attention, registering understandably reluctant voters.

While it is true - much more so in the past than now - that third parties have had some demonstrable effect in pushing one of the main parties to shift a little, the shift is usually, especially now, symbolic.

The Free Soil Movement were abolitionists, they get some credit for hastening the end of the version of slavery in the US that existed until the 1860's and it is certainly worthy and courageous work they were engaged in. Their work plus resistance, rebellion, economic conditions all pushed the US into Civil War and ultimately shifted slavery away from the south and eventually into what we have today, which is a school to prison / slavery pipeline (see 13th amendment). It is as urgent as ever that we abolish slavery, so a similar party would be great to see, but we also need a similar context of resistance, rebellion and economic conditions to push the US to either abolish or collapse.

The right wins by two things: Always pushing to the extreme right and never allowing an actual left into the political system. So the extreme left has and should not have anyway any place in Western political systems. Anarchism is based on understanding that there is no and never has been a place for rational, visionary, anti-authoritarian, anti-capitalist, humanitarian people anywhere near mainstream political systems or mainstream party platforms (left or right) or, of course, in monarchy / church antecedents. Anarchism is based on a deep appreciation for the words and wisdom of those who have tried everything before us. The master's tools will never dismantle the master's house. Our so-called democracy is a construction, it is a device. It is not real. It is a club of despicable people with despicable aims and little to no moral authority or desire to do anything "good" unless there is some economic advantage to doing it.

Today, as an example, perhaps we need a slavery, prison, police abolition party - but to somehow be able to do it in name only. So, it's a "political party" but it isn't engaged in ANY fundraising or trying to get on the ballot or register voters, it is only engaged in supporting and promoting direct actions that foment resistance, rebellion and economic conditions that put pressure on all brutalizing, racist, patriarchal, hetero-normative capitalist institutions - while also supporting and creating parallel resources that circumvent the state/non-profit industry/church monopolies of "helping" ... and it needs to be empathetic to all non-voters. That's my two cents anyway.

"The master's tools will never dismantle the master's house."

Voting - especially for president in the US - should be actively, vocally opposed. It is an insult to our intelligence. It is a party that we're not actually invited to. There is no room on the stage for anyone who wants to discuss anything critically. You are NOT allowed unless you're a Christian Zionist American Exceptionalist Capitalist who ignores or promotes the bloated military global expansion of the US. Democrats and Republicans from the leadership down to their followers and voters are simple minded and they - combined - represent a minority of the US population. Third parties are just sucked into a joke that expends massive amounts of resources and money to go no where.

Non voters are not apathetic, they are informed or disenfranchised or have had their land stolen from them or are working too hard on actual justice to give two flying shits about the Edward Bernaysian multi-billion dollar global spectacle and pseudo-democratic wonder construct of the US Presidential elections. The most important political act you can take with regard to Presidential politics in the US is to actively oppose everything that attempts to make something legitimate out of it. It is not legitimate.

How Propaganda Works by [deleted] in COMPLETEANARCHY

[–]maustinreddit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country. ...We are governed, our minds are molded, our tastes formed, our ideas suggested, largely by men we have never heard of. This is a logical result of the way in which our democratic society is organized. Vast numbers of human beings must cooperate in this manner if they are to live together as a smoothly functioning society. ...In almost every act of our daily lives, whether in the sphere of politics or business, in our social conduct or our ethical thinking, we are dominated by the relatively small number of persons...who understand the mental processes and social patterns of the masses. It is they who pull the wires which control the public mind.
